One of the finest Brazilian hockey players of all time. Top 40 for sure.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

What a great story Regehr's NHL career is. When he was traded as part of the package for Fleury, I was pissed. Who the hell is this guy that just got traded for my favourite Flame? Then the car accident and article after article about how he would never play hockey again. Then he made the team. He was then the cornerstone of the defence during the '04 cup run. He made us into one of the most physical teams after the '05 lockout. Got to play in Torino for the '06 Olympics. He got to live the sibling dream and play with his brother Richie on the same NHL team. He got to play over 1000 NHL games with this hard hitting style of play. He even took a hometown discount on his last contract with the Flames.

Phaneuf might have had the more ''highlight' style hits, but no one was more physical on the backend during their prime the Regehr. I was sad to see him get traded to Buffalo. But extremely happy to see him get a cup with Sutter in LA.

As much as we all don't like the 'Forever a Flame' theme, he deserves it as much as anybody who played for the team.

I Agree

IMO from the 2000's team

FAF:
Kipper
Reggie
Conny (partially on the back of his later contributions to the organization, because he did not really play here long enough for it to warrant it on its own).

Retire:
Iggy (Its on a different level for a player that is now 18th? all time in goals, and did 90% of that with the Flames).

Someone will tell me if Iggy is retired Kipper should be, and I would agree if he started here for 16 season here, and was top 10 all time in wins. But he didn't and he's not. Iginla did the forward equivalent of both of those things

Thought I'd look up his brother Richie -- top 40 Indonesian hockey player -- looks like he's still playing over in the German Elite League:

Why does it have anything to do with Iggy? Iginla's # should be retired, he's a Hall of Fame player. There isn't even a debate. And his # in the rafters doesn't have any bearing on whether or not Kipper's should be.

He played with the team for almost a decade. Never had a GAA over 3 until his last season. Set an NHL record GAA at 1.70. Vezina winner and should have had at least one more. Iggy was a beast in '04, but there's no way we get even a sniff at the Cup without Kipper. His play became expected, and I really don't think a lot of people realize how terrible this team would have been through the 2000's if not for him. He was one of the best goaltenders ever, his relatively short career doesn't change that. His number should absolutely be retired.

Congrats to Reggie. A great Flame.

Since the argument about FAF vs Retiring a number will surely come up, KK said himself that FAF is REPLACING number retirements. Therefore Iggy, Kipper, Reggie and others will NOT be retired, rather will be inducted into the FAF program.

This of course will be an absolute travesty if KK doesn't back peddle and retire Iggy at the very least, and probably Kipper as well. I don't see a problem with a two tier system, but it's simply not that right now. Which is dumb.

His oilfield rentals company might not be doing very well in this time. He used to be all over their website. His roots are definitely here and he'll probably become one of the long-time Flames who remain in Calgary.

I love Reggie as much as the next guy but retiring his number or even ring of honor is a major stretch...he was not on that level

Guy made a Canadian World Cup and Olympic team.

He was never going to put up points but as a pure, physical shutdown d-man he was elite.

Deserves to be up there.

Reg is top 5 in the Flames D all time.

Macinnis, Suter, Reinhart, Gio, are the only guys I see as ahead of him.

Reg played more games than any of them as a Flame - only Macinnis is even close. And aside from those guys above, the other guys ahead of him in points are not ahead of him as a player (well, Housely, but not as a Flame): Macoun, Phaneuf, Morris.

How does he retire a flame when he wasn't a flame at the end? I think of him as a flame and he lives here....i get that. But is this kind of a slap to LA?
