I agree with them being worse this year. I live in North Calgary, maybe it's a regional thing

City doesn't seem a ton different (Crowchild seems a bit worse maybe), but I'm willing to bet the provincial road budget has been slashed because I don't remember a year with less frequent snow falls and worse conditions.

Looks like it varies from person to person.

I'll chalk it up to my tires needing replacing and new commute I guess.

(####. This is only the 3rd winter with these winter tires)

I have always thought it was best to air down in colder weather as it provides more tire contact with the surface for increased traction/stopping.

The roads seem the same as last winter. Maybe your tires need changing?

Nothing to do with the city as they are using as much or more salt and sand as they ever have. More precip than last year and there were some fairly humid conditions in December that we typically don't see. Also there hasn't been much in the way of Chinooks as the temperatures have hovered at freezing of below.

I've heard that too, but I haven't really noticed a huge difference in the feel of the car when using lower pressure.

The fuel economy difference though... that's been very noticeable. I'm getting on average around 12.6L/100km vs the more usual 11.1L/100km. But... maybe that's affected more by the slower and longer commute as well as the increased use of heat?

it isn't the number of winters it is the Km's driven.

You want higher air pressure not lower. Typically 3-5 psi.

I haven't noticed any difference compared to any other year up until this morning. For whatever reason they seemed much slicker today than usual, especially given they small amount of snow we had and the fact they were relatively clear. We didn't get a lot of snow but for whatever reason I seemed to have much less traction than usual. Commute from NW to South central via Stoney, Sarcee, and Glenmore.

I disagree, the road conditions in August can be treacherous

Haven't noticed it worse at all, if anything it's been better because of the mild weather. Highway to Edmonton in good condition, no real weather delays flying between YYC-YEG-YMM.

Didn't we have a brown Christmas last year? If so- that means we've already had more snow covered days this winter than at this point last year.

I bet they gain kilometers with each successive winter.

Google image search for Dec 25, 2014 Calgary shows pictures with snow on the ground, here's the snowfall for 2014:

EDIT: Oh yeah, had that big snow in September 2014

The roads may feel worse this year simply because we've had more snow than normal and few chinooks.

worse driver's imo...the roads are not worse at all

never ever seen so many donkeys in my life with

** new driver signs in the back window
** on the phone
** cannot merge ....shallow mergers that cannot even think about getting into traffic at the proper speed and with enough safe distance without cutting everyone else off because they are just so dumb...cutting over the lines kicking up rocks and destroying who knows how many windshields %^&*
** snow and ice on all windows ....buy a scraper you f tards
** no winters on ...just be prepared.
** if your on Stoney or any highway there are so many f tards that wont get over if thy have cruise control on

The days of the corteous Albertan are done /

everybody has to be first .....right ......and faster.

The roads are fine.

Roads in general seem better this year. They are slippery the day of a snowfall, but it seems like we aren't having so many multiple-day snow events this year so they actually get to roads other than priority ones.

One road that I've found to be worse this year is Stoney Trail. I normally love Stoney, but it seems extra slippery this year. Back in November, I had to go to the vet one evening when it had snowed and took Stoney, as usual, and it was really bad. I took 52 Street home and it was fine. I believe the province not the city clears Stoney, so I wondered if it was a new contractor this year or something.
