I'm starting to think more and more that Cammalleri is going to be involved in this. How funny would that be?

The Flames are small and have 0 depth on the RW. Our first could turn into one of Puljajarvi or Laine. If we knew our pick was 15 or higher, I would. As of right now, our first is waaay too valuable. And as for "protecting the pick" and if we ended up with a high pick, it'd be next years...who's to say next years isn't high too.
As of now, our first should be off the table unless it's for a big young scoring top line RW or a proven young starting goalie.

Mulling it over, there isn't a package I can think of that I would be willing to give away, or that Yzerman would accept, that could get Drouin on the Flames roster.

Tampa has to have realistic expectations. Sure he has potential, but they are dangling a player that they have more or less said they do not believe is ready for the NHL.
That's not to say he won't be soon, but Drouin is behind a lot of players in his draft class now. As such, he represents a risk. You don't sell the farm on a risk. A mid first round pick plus prospect is a reasonable ask.

Yeah I just double checked his numbers and they are deadly. I just know Tampa needs cap space this summer and have their goalie of the future already so I could see Bishop on the move. Having said that goalies don't return a ton in trades

Clearly the best player from the 2012 draft (aka Jankowski) must be involved in any package. Feaster is probably pumping his tires within the Tampa organization and is getting Stevie Y to call Weisbrod for a reference.

Nothing against McKenzie - but Tampa isn't going to get Horvat or Bennett unless they add massively. This reminds me of Hamonic rumours where they were going to get someone like Hamilton. Those types of trades just don't happen.
These are very hard trades to make because the team are in their window now so they don't want picks or prospects. So they have to get used to the idea of taking on older players which I doubt Tampa wants to do.

I'd try for Rychel instead, Drouin's too big of a fish right now.

A great deal of what happens with Druin will telegraph what Yzerman is going to do with Stamkos. You need to remember that Tampa Bay is in 'win now' mode. If Stamkos is thought to walk at the end of the season, or is traded at the deadline, Yzerman is going to need to start stockpiling at least one, and probably two, top 9 centers going into the playoffs. These players would not be prospects. They would need to contribute now.
On the other hand, if he is keeping Stamkos, he will need to unload salary.
From a Calgary perspective, Backlund, Granlund or both will be going the other way under the first scenario. Carle, Condra or both coming back in the second.

It's too bad Hamilton is playing so well, otherwise we could say Hamilton for Drouin!
I still really want Hamonic on the Flames and think he'a better fit then Drouin.

Even Horvat is worth tons more than Drouin? If I had Drouin, I sure wouldn't trade him for Horvat. The only way you win that is if Drouin busts.

No such magical beast exists.
In regards to Drouin, I wouldn't give up any of Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Hamilton, Giordano, or Brodie for him and the only way I'd part with our first was if it was lottory protected... I can't imagine that Tampa would part with Drouin without one of those being on the table.

To be honest, I'd trade one of Hickey/Kylington/Andersson + conditional 1st for Drouin. Not sure if Tampa would, but that's the max I'd do if I were the Flames.

I'd do Drouin for league worst -19 Horvat any day if I were the Canucks.

Our big summer acquisition is rounding into form and that's a bad thinG?

it was a joke. Some people wanted to trade him for Hamonic. IMO Hamilton will be one of the top defenders in the league in a few years.

I don't know if Drouin can fetch the kind of return Hamilton got. Hamilton in a lot of peoples minds was a steal but a 1st and two 2nds? I'm not certain that'd happen. But who knows! Anything can happen when GM's start bantering around trade packages.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
Presumably everyone in on Drouin would be in on Rychel and Drouin is easily the bigger fish of the two. So make a shot at Rychel while everyone else is holding their bullets for Drouin.
Of course Columbas could always just holdout until the Drouin matter resolves but it's worth a shot.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd include this year's 1st for Drouin.
I'm optimistic that the Flames will be in a playoff spot, and even if they aren't, I can't see them finishing in the bottom 6, therefore having a very low chance of selecting 1, 2, or 3. Drouin has a ton of potential, and with the proper ice time and coaching, could develop. Right now is a good time as Hudler and Frolik are out.
