It's the new pads obviously...Ill give him credit they are sharp.
Can't help but be happy for Kari especially after such a terrible start to the season. Would be a real pleasant suprise if he can maintain what he's done over the last 10 or so. Perhaps another 1 year deal?!?

Karri Ramo repaying Calgary Flames for recent trust
Quote:
“We gave him a little mission and Karri has responded real well,” Hartley said after Friday’s practice.
“He’s probably one of the best competitors that I’ve coached. Right now, it’s all about confidence. When things go well, you ride the wave and when things go wrong, you have to turn it around. Karri has turned it around.”
Quote:
Since his brief assignment to the minors, Ramo has cobbled together an 11-5-1 record, 2.56 average and .912 save percentage.
The key moment, though, was Hartley’s decision to stick with the netminder after a 6-3 loss in Colorado on Nov. 3, a night in which Ramo surrendered five goals, instead of turning the revolving door.
In the 15 games since, Ramo has posted a 10-4-1 record, 2.31 average and .924 save percentage.
“I don’t know what they were thinking but sometimes that’s the best way to go, just let everybody settle things out and find their game,” Ramo said. “Right now, it’s working for us.”
Quote:
“When you play a lot of games in a row … you progress. You get better,” he said. “It’s not, ‘I’m now playing my game and try to keep my level.’ I try to get better and the more games you play, you build on the next one.”
“It doesn’t matter what happens in a previous game,” Ramo argued, giving a glimpse of his approach. “None of those goals count in the next game and none of those stats count into the next game. You have to be able to shut it out.”
Not just for us, but because I love any story where a person comes up against a situation where it appears all hope is lost only to show the strength of character to come back and truly realise their potential.
I was wrong about Ramo. Good on him for turning his season and his teams season around. Not sure if I would want to go with him long term but it is his net for at least the rest of the season.
No reason to add another goalie given the way Ramo has played lately and what a gong show the three goalie system was in October. This can just fix itself as none of Ramo, Hiller and Ortio are signed for next year.
It amazes me how at the very top level of any sport the difference between an 'average' player and a 'good' player comes down to consistency more than anything else.
Ramo is talented and can pull off some ridiculous saves, but he can be pretty inconsistent. It seems like he's at his best when he feels confident & comfortable in his status on the team.
The best thing Hartley can do is continue having faith in Ramo. The more games he gets the more confidence he has; the more confidence he has the more consistently good he will be. A consistently good Ramo is actually a pretty decent NHL goalie. Another good Feaster acquisition.
Imagine what the team would look like now if Ramo was claimed?
I think we would have been fine. Hiller is still a good goalie. I think it was just a matter of one of them getting consistent starts to work out the bugs. I'm just glad someone picked up the ball and ran with it.

I think the whole "Play them multiple games in a row regardless to let them get their confidence and timing" thing would have worked for any of the goalies (including Ortio). The issue was that Hiller was hurt and Ramo had a much better body of work than Ortio to be that guy. Ramo ran with his chance and has been great.

only one back to back this month ... does Hiller start that game in Carolina? Guessing so.
McDonald didn't set the world afire at the WJC, but he's young and still a good prospect. Gillies is the man in the system, so hopefully his surgery recovery goes well, but assuming it does he's still 2 years away at least.
So what do you do with Ramo and a contract? I doubt he wants a one year deal again, but then I'm guessing the Flames don't either.

is he now a 3 years 15M guy?
If he continues his current play for the bulk of the season, I have no problem with that, especially since we won't have Hiller on the books anymore with his $4.5 million as a back up.

I still believe we should be trying the Ramo/Ortio tandem so give Ramo a couple year contract and wait it out.
It's a little frustrating as goaltending may turn into our Achilles heel as our team rounds into form in the next couple of years.
