No timeline yet, but at least we know there was a cause.

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions:
Just spoke to the player Jiri Hudler says he has a groin muscle injury.. Wants his status clarified. There you go. Talked to the man.#Flames

A groin injury would explain this season so far

It all becomes clear. Nagging groin that never heals fully as long as you're playing. He's been a step slow all year and this is probably why.

But he has been pretty bad all year ? Surely if it was an injury from last playoffs it would have healed up during the off season ? I'm not ready to say it was the injury that has kept his play at such a low level all year, definitely contributed but lets see how he looks when he gets back.

No, but the only other explanation; where Hudler loses all professionalism, heart, hustle, and desire to contribute overnight in a contract year makes absolutely zero sense.

A groin injury would explain how his skating went downhill from last year to this year. Assuming its been bothering him for a while.

Could also be a sports hernia as that occurs in the groin as well.

That might make more sense as from my reading since it is often discovered after long term groin pain that doesn't seem to respond to treatment.

Well, I would guess he plays out the season as a Flame then as he will probably be on the IR until after the deadline.

If known earlier in the season, would management leave up to Huds to decide to play or have surgery/heal up? It being a contract year, did they allow Hudler to decide to make what he can out of it?

If it was an injury since the beginning of the season, one would hope he would have been shut down earlier to heal properly. After all, this isn't the Oilers medical staff we are talking about here.

But that's the thing with groins - you think it's fine, you play a couple games and bam! back it comes

If it was affecting his play that much no one should have thought it was fine.

If this has been bothering him for so long, I'm kinda annoying at him for battling through it. I know he is probably not one to complain or look weak, but he'd have been far better off admitting he had a problem 1-2 months ago and getting it sorted. That way he could have possibly got it sorted or let it heal, come back and resumed where he left off last season. But by not doing anything about it until now, he might have risked longer term damage and it could have ramifications for him when his deal runs out in the summer, regardless of which organisation he's with.

Be interesting to see if this is the case once we can an official word from him or the management.

I'm good with that.

The team is holding it together without him right now which gives us the luxury of time.

And if he needs another week, so be it.

Once healed, he'd be like adding a trade deadline rental without losing a player from the roster to do so. And there would be no uncertainty about his chemistry with jg and sm.
