My biggest problem is the insane amount of resources that the anti-malware service uses.
Other than that it isn't terrible.

That is kinda my point. It isn't terrible, but the anti-malware mess is almost reason enough for me not to use it.

One cool feature of Win 10: Cast to device. Right click on a video, cast to device, see all my TVs that are turned on, boom, video shows up on that TV.

I've experienced similar or the same problems as you on several systems it is very annoying and I don't know of any fixes currently. @ TorqueDog I've tried all kinds of things didn't help.

I do quite a bit of networking around my home and I've been able to have my network hum along without much fuss, never mind the difficulty you or Resurrection have experienced. Furthermore, the steps you follow to accomplish networking / media streaming are identical once you reach the Control Panel, since that aspect hasn't changed since Windows 7. Save of course for the far more advanced stuff that isn't necessary in most use-cases.
I will say that one of the annoyances I have seen is that the Media Streaming permissions get reset and turned off every time a new build of Windows 10 is installed (whether you're on the Insider program, or installing a public release like the 1511 November Update). That is frustrating, and I'd encourage you to report it in the Windows Feedback app. With a huge reliance on telemetry and feedback, this is the best way to get things resolved in future updates.

That is my major annoyance. Yes it's fixable, but it's something that shouldn't happen. I'll definitely be reporting it. If you're tech savvy it's fixable, but not everyone knows how to do this without some sort of struggle. I set up my 83 year old grandmother's network so she can watch movies and such on her devices and I'm just waiting for the call on why it doesn't work anymore. So I would say it's a legit annoyance Mr. Bill Bumface.
Having said that, I much prefer it to Windows 8 and for the most part it's a pretty reliable platform.

Ensure that your network is a private network and turn network discovery on.
Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Homegroup
If your network is flagged as public, it'll tell you that you can't join to a homegroup and that your computer's network location must be set to private. Click 'Change network location' and answer 'Yes' to the network fly-out to change to a private network.
Then in Advanced sharing settings (accessible from inside either the Homegroup pane or from Network and Sharing Center), you need to select 'Turn on network discovery'.
This fly-out typically happens the first time you connect to a network. The problem is that clicking ANYWHERE that isn't on the fly-out itself will close the damn fly-out, which usually happens to more experienced users who are clicking around setting their stuff up at a million miles a second.
The fly-out behavior needs to be persistent, like a dialog box. Either it receives a yes/no answer, or it stays.

I am set to a private network but I also dont use homegroup, its disabled on both machines. I actually cant even see the surface in it the explorer window. But I can browse to it manually.
So #### dumb and frustrating.
as a work around I've simply pinned them to quick access.

Curious as to why you don't just use homegroup? It's fairly dead simple.
It does seem, however, that the homegroup gets messed up with every new build as well. I have re-joined a couple of my home PC's several times.

The thing about these types of threads is that it's generally only those who are dissatisfied who come out and make noise. The people satisfied with a new OS don't typically run around gushing spontaneously. Windows 10 is now installed in over 10% of desktop computers, and if the issues in this thread were typical I suspect (a) it never would have reached that level, and (b) the outcry would be deafening in more places other than this forum.
I've installed it on a Surface Pro 3 and a really old desktop with no real issues, networking or otherwise.

Irrelevant, since you can roll back to your previous OS immediately following an upgrade. Plus the automatically checked 'Upgrade to Windows 10' snafu only lasted one week in October.

After all this time and given all the smart people working at Microsoft, you would think they could simplify the sharing computers process.

It's not just windows. Every single time I turn on my MacBook I need to go into finder and connect to server to see my iMac. I have to do the same to connect to my windows box. I think windows 7 was the pinnacle of networking, always connected never any error screens.

I prefer Win 10 to 8 absolutely. 7 is still good, 8 was kinda a mess in my opinion, on trying to bridge the portable with the desktop. 10 does a good job, and is lightning fast for me.
I will admit, I haven't been using the networking features.

Not sure if sarcasm, but it was already mentioned multiple times: HomeGroup. It works from Windows 7 through 10, it sets up everything from file sharing (Docs, Music, Pictures, Videos) to printers.
But it doesn't get used, because all the smart people in this thread fancy themselves as IT professionals and like to do things the difficult way.
Don't get me wrong, so do I... difference being that I actually am one, and don't get all cranky and foot-stompy when I can't figure out basic networking on an operating system where the networking control panel is virtually unchanged since Windows 7. [shrug]

No. It is designed to be used between Windows PC's only.
I would assume you have to share the old-school way. Right-click the folder with your media in it, and go to sharing. Share it and give everyone full access. do the same within the security tab of that folder as well. Lastly, ensure that "password protected shares" is disabled for your PC. http://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/...indows-10.html
I have heard that accessing media via a network share is really sketchy most of the time. Most people give up and use Plex, Kodi, etc., as a DLNA server.

I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 a few months ago. For the most part its been okay. It made my PC run a bit faster when I first upgraded. Over time though it has gotten very slow when trying to scroll through some websites. It seems especially bad with YouTube. When I check the task manager it's using a lot of CPU and memory at the time.
A few weeks ago the start button, Cortana and the calendar at the bottom of the screen stopped working. So I looked into it a bit and ended up uninstalling a Windows security update it did at the end of December. Those buttons are working again now.

Upgraded to 10 from 7 today. Seems pretty good so far. What should I be watching for in terms of known concerns?
