Oh what's that? It's because they didn't allow professionals? Well firstly, the Olympics are reserved for amateurs, and secondly, Wayne Friggen Gretzky played in 1998. So yeah.
Tone down the homerism.

I don't understand why you're accusing him of homerism. All he's saying is that Canada could put together a couple of competitive teams, which is arguably true.
He never said guaranteed medal(s) which you seem to be attacking him for, and his comment is probably also a bit tongue in cheek based on the last sentence...

Haha, he moved to the States, his Americano came flying out in that post. It caught me off guard at first, too, lol.

2013 was best-on-best because of the lockout and Canada got smoked by the US in the semis. Now a guy who's eligible to play for Mexico is likely going to be drafted first OA. Things are changing, other countries are catching up and Canada seems to be treading water. I think the days of winning this thing five times in a row are over.

I dont think the sky is falling.....
We are a year off of one of our most dominant ever. We have had worse finishes in the past. This was a bad year and as mentioned were missing some key eligible peices. That combined with iffy coaching and play and hopefully it is a one off.
Also Virtanen wont be back next year and that is addition by subtraction.
And Canadians have been drafted first overall for 3 years straight and 7 of the last 8.
We are hardly treading water.

Let's be honest, everything that could go right did go right for the Canadians during that 5 year run as well. The Canadians probably should have lost to the Americans in 2007, but Carey Price was outstanding and Toews was unstoppable in the shootout. In 2009, Russia had Canada on the brink, but Eberle scored with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker with 5 seconds left and Canada went on to win another shootout.

The days of winning 5 in a row went out the window the minute the NHL put in a hard salary cap. Guys that would be sent back to junior are sticking in the NHL (would appear more frequently each yet) as they are on entry level contracts and provide some cheap depth.
Sure every team is now losing a few to this, but none to the extent Canada does year and year out. Each and every year now Canada is losing two tops lines that in the past would likely have been left in junior for one more season or lent to the program by their NHL team.
Canada's men's hockey team has outright dominated over the past few years. Hardly treading water. Canada wouldn't lose a single best-on-best tournament if they played series instead of one game eliminations.
