I made it to Sloth and Hot Wax today. I liked Sloth better of the two, just because of the larger selection, even though Hot Wax was the only one that had anything I was actively looking for. I still ended up buying three albums from Sloth though, just because they had enough stuff that I was able to find a few records I hadn't thought of.
It sounds like I should make Recordland my next stop though.
Good timing because that was the boxing weekend 20% off sale at Sloth. Most old/used versions of albums are okay and cheaper than buying new (they are charging like $30+ for new Maiden, Judas Priest, etc. when the vintage ones can be had for $10) so I would usually look for that stuff first at Recordland and the most limited used bins at other places.
Good choice! I have an LP120 also along with some vintage turntables. Happy to see you aren't using an Urban Outfitters Crosley special that can damage your records with it's wobbly plastic platter, cheap Chinese ceramic cartridge, and excessive tracking force.
Quick update before bed; I finally made it to Recordland and that place blew me away. Found almost everything I was looking for (no System of a Down anywhere?!), and even got my hands on this brand new, first-release, Korn debut album... and it's #13! How insane is that?
Also got my hands on Opiate, Undertow, Lateralus (still need Aenima and 10,000 Days); Nevermind, Live at Reading; The Wall (Feb 2012 reissue); Appetite for Destruction; Rust in Peace; Hybrid Theory; Celebrity Skin and a few others.
Man, hearing the guitar on Prison Sex... I'm definitely hooked on vinyl now.

Most 90s stuff is still rare as there were never vinyl LP releases for them originally. The latest two System of a Down records were re-released in 2014 so you could possibly ask a store to see if they can order them for you. Actually a lot of the stuff on your still to find list doesn't exist on vinyl aside from bootlegs and European releases. Welcome to the wacky world of paying astronomical sums of money for music just because you crave it in a specific format
#13 is pretty sick. That's a limited 2500 run. Music on Vinyl always does that sort of thing. The lowest I have is like #583 of the 1986 Transformers the Movie soundtrack lol.
I haven't been able to bring myself to drop the cash for Appetite for Destruction yet. The re-release is expensive as is the original.
Judging by your purchases, you've spent a few hundred bucks already. Welcome to to the sinkhole of doom!
I regret not being a friend of CJSW as I'm seeing the 10% off friends of CJSW signs at Sloth and Luke's Drug Mart of late!
I own a few albums that used to be in CJSW's collection (Prince - Controversy) that I've found over the years. CBC Radio sold off their vinyl collection a few years ago as well and lots of those are out there in the wild.

Haha, yes. Between the turntable itself and the 10-12 albums I've bought, I've probably spent close to $700 in the course of one week. Annoying, for sure, but a lot of these albums are just staples for me that I buy first every time I adopt a new format (cassettes, CDs, mp3s, lossless, etc). Actually, I usually buy the first four Metallica albums before I buy anything else, but this time I'm holding off on them. The number of times I've listened to Ride the Lightning since it came out in 1984... yeesh, lol.
Love that comic, btw. I'm only a week or so into this, but I can already relate!

At least it sounds like you are still only focusing on the music side. I've started down the path of destruction that is HiFi equipment and I think I'm doomed. I have collected 10 turntables after only one year of this hobby and I think I need to start selling them soon. In my 500 square foot condo alone, I have another 5 or 6 receivers/amps and 13 speakers (one is a soundbar from which I started from originally) Luckily I'm single this year so far or I'd be kicked out of my own place.
