Thing is that Hiller, Ortio and Ramo were every bit as bad as Bernier in the first two months of the season and Hartley had no goaltender to turn to. The fact that we are even discussing this topic just goes to show how overhyped everything in the Toronto market is.

I know you can't say "If..." because every team can say it, but the Leafs record with Bernier isn't exactly great. Their record with Reimer and Sparks is not too bad.
They had a brutal October. They were 1-6-2 over their first 9 games. Since then they are 14-8-5. They have a pretty good goal differential considering their postion in the standings of -4.
Off topic, but wow, just looked at the Pacific and every team has a negative goal differential except for LA. And every team except San Jose has a double-digit goal differential in the high teens to low twenties. What a stinky division.

I agree - if the Leafs won more, they'd be better. Great analysis!

Your first paragraph infers that if the Leafs had better goaltending, said Leafs would be a better hockey team.

Yes, but the difference is that Flames fans are extremely humble and remorseful about that fact.

Inferring that one team is garbage while your team is only 1 point up on them while playing one more game does seem strange though. Doesn't seem humble. So that poster thinks the Flames are garbage too?
What Leaf fans are bragging about our standings? All the fans I know are aware the Leafs are not a great team. But most are happy with Babcock and what he has gotten out of them. I don't care if Babcock wins the Adams. Just don't think they play like garbage this year.

The Leafs are bad. Really bad. Oilers of the East! They may never be good again

The Flames had their worst start in franchise history and were the worst team in October, no?
If not, it felt like it.
Since then they are one of the better teams and just getting hot. Does that suggest Hartley should win again?
Sure a few will say we won in spite of Hartley, but Babcock and his team have not been better than Hartley and the Flames.

Nope. Steve Smith as captain, Fuhr & Brathwaite between the pipes.
Honorable mention to Pavel Torgayev, Sergei Krivokrasov, and Hnat Dominechelli. 1999-2000.

That's not just a subtle difference. The actual facts and statistics say there was nothing wrong with my comment.

What? LOL. This thread proves the opposite actually. There's 1 point difference and the Leafs are in another universe from the mighty Flames.

That's always the assumption from people out-west.
It's by James Mirtle from Kamloops BC who is not by any means known as a Leaf fan. He's known as a "Stats Geek" who basis all his theories on advanced stats. He's no Leafs fan.

James Mirtle @mirtle 7h7 hours ago Leafs have recalled Arcobello and Bibeau.

The Leafs are on pace to have four fights all season. Three years ago they had 44 in a 48-game season.
