Would love to see him actually try to build a winner somewhere, as opposed to just inheriting one.

He pretty much has coached two world cup winning teams. At Barca he had the bulk of the Spanish national team that was in a run of 3 winning straight major tournaments, and with Bayern he has the bulk of the German national team that just won the world cup.

It's not even like he has had to handle any real aggressive egos (Ibrahimovich at Barca really the only one, and they just jettisoned him out ASAP) on those rosters, most of the players were together and familar with each other already, either from the national team set up or since they were already an established part of the squad.
Couldnt agree more. I dont see whats so special about Pep.

Looks like Bayern have inked Ancelotti to a 3 year deal.

I'm okay with it. I agree with Diane, I think Pep is overrated and he hasnt managed to take this Bayern team over the hump in the CL.

Further, I'm hoping this motivates the team to win the CL this season.

Pretty much love everything about this goal ... the backwards over the head pass from Nacho, the nice back heel dish from Bale, Ronaldo slipping two defenders, the ridiculous cross from Bale, the first touch from Vasquez

... man

Barcelona celebrate the end of their transfer ban by registering 77 (seventy-seven!!!) new players for their various teams including youth setups. Will be interesting to see what Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal can add to their team ... especially Turan. No idea how much time he'll get behind Messi/Neymar/Suarez and where he'll actually play on the field ...

Benitez has been fired and Zidane has been appointed new manager. So what you didn't want nik.

That Benitez appointment was such a head scratcher right from the start. Everybody who follows football knew this wouldn't end well. Still no idea what Perez was thinking ... firing Ancelotti was one thing, but replacing him with a vastly inferior manager was a decision that'd normally get you fired.

Zidane is a risky appointment too ... pretty crazy that two huge clubs have the same stupid idea at the same time (see United and Giggs). And you can quote me on that - this will end in tears as well.

I'm glad he's gone. I don't know how unaware you have to be to think that a "get a goal, park the bus" style is going to fly at Real Madrid. Or, lately, the "go down early to a weak club, power out a draw" style. I'm obviously very worried about Zidane being the coach but really, with Benitez at the helm, this season was a lost one anyway.

Maybe James can get some playing time now.

Two things from watching the press conference. 1. Zidane's spanish is crazy good. 2. It's really weird seeing Zidane speak spanish.

Yeah, but Zidane is legit crazy. I think hes suffering some long-term brain damage after that head butt.

I dont why they're so keen on getting him in there right now.

probably because of the headbutt. I don't understand people who criticize him for it though, he had the most memorable ending of a playing career that you could possibly imagine. Plus it was that Materazzi asshat, so I thought it was hilarious.

We're basing him being crazy 10 years after that epic head butt?

What am I misunderstanding here Locke?

Oh I'm not bashing him for the Materazzi head-butt, far from it, I think that was one of the single most entertaining moments in the history of sport and that the ref should have red-carded Materazzi and awarded Zidane the World Cup right then. Not France, just Zidane.

But since then hes had a lot of weird interviews, I think he took over RM once before but didnt have any of his coaching badges so he got in trouble for that, hes had a few crazy outbursts as the B team coach usually as a result of one of his kids. Hes just a bit out there. And hes got the 'crazy eyes!' You must admit.

Its a fine line.

I want to see him headbutt one of his players if they miss a penalty or something. Just calmly walk on the pitch and BOOM!

I think I'd be more scared of 'Calm-Zidane' than 'Psychotic-Zidane.'

maybe that's exactly what Ronaldo needs.

Putting yourself ahead of the team? That's a headbutt. Pouting after a 4-0 win because you didn't score? That's a headbutt. Pouting because a teammate scored a goal instead of passing to you? Oh, you better believe that's a headbutt.

Ronaldo cliches aside, I do think that Zidane will be good at managing egos. Which, lets be honest, are at every club. There's one man on that roster who's won like he's won and it's Sergio Ramos. Ronaldo is a better player than he was, and has more individual accolades, but that Zidane resume, club clout, and ability when he played is pretty heavy to try and stand against. I at least think he'll garner much important respect.
