How the hell does Colborne keep moving up in the lineup. It's truly baffling
The most suitable guy in the lineup imo. He's big and can get puck possession in the offensive zone. Anybody else would change the line up too much. Not going to put up points but atleast he won't set us back.

Where does this possession idea come from? There's fast more proof to the contrary.
Hudler was the best guy, but he's been hurt. Why does a below average big guy fit the bill when a small guy was the best one???
poor Johnny has to carry an off season Monahan, and the big man.
That's an unfairly harsh assessment of a player who is on pace to finish within about 5 goals and points of where he ended up last year. Despite his "off" first half of the season. Johnny has been spectacular in comparison to every single one of his teammates, not just Monahan.

This makes no sense to me
the possession idea comes from the fact that he's one of the better board play guys on our team, him and Backlund. Obviously the small guy isn't the best one when he's not playing. Who else should be moved that won't disrupt the lineup?
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames Head Coach Bob Hartley tells media Jiri Hudler will be tested today, will definitely not play vs. #Lightning tomorrow.

With Jiri Hudler out, Mason Raymond is in for #Flames vs. #Lightning tomorrow. #CGYvsTBL
I honestly don't get why people think Monahan is off. He's not playing much different then last year, if anything I think he's playing as well if not better in the past little while. The entire team played like crap but the actual good players have found a way out and have hit their stride. I think Johnny just makes everyone look worse than they are by comparison.
I hope this isn't an injury for Hudler. I think it's just a matter of time before he regains some magic and goes on a bit of a tear...and then he's traded.

The continued use of Colborne on anything higher than the 3rd line is baffling to me.
He has the emotional intensity and offensive intelligence of a gym sock.

Love Monahan so don't get me wrong, but it's 'the eye test' for me. He's just not where he was last year. The numbers may say he's the same, but I just don't agree.
And it could be argued with Johnny playing better than last year, Monahan must be playing worse to be 'at about the same'.
*shrug*

Monahan isn't flashy. He just does. This year he is on pace for a little less goals and points than last year where most people probably expected him to increase his totals.
I also really like Ferland and Backlund together but I really want Ferland to get another crack at that top line. He's looked great as of late and I really think he could make a big difference on that line where as Colbs just kinda helps a little bit. I love Colbs but he does not belong on that top line.

When Colborne gets mad (ie. emotional intensity), he's awesome - the problem is that only happens like once every 20 games. I hope the coaching staff are working on that with him.
I think its impressive what Monahan has done so far and even more so with Johnny seeing how its been a while now since they have had a useful 3rd fwd on there line. Hudler has been missing for some time now, and has been pretty much a decoy out there tossing the puck in for Johnny to retrieve and then going on a change. The scariest thing for me is Johnny has more hits than Monahan, on the plus side defensively has been sound and better at faceoffs.

Fair enough. I can stomach "not where he was last year" much easier than "being carried".

No Hudler, no Frolik. First line RW options are limited. Colborne has shown some chemistry with Monahan in the past. Would be nice to see Bennett up there at some point but the sheltered minutes are probably better for his development.
I think from an eye test point of view he's the same. Taking out one third of the offensive threat from the line kind of makes it hard to get to good scoring positions. He also has to be more defensive with Hudler being invisible, one player dragging a line down completely changes the dynamics of the play. That Johnny is doing so well with a boat anchor on his line against the best in the league is impressive.
Hudler should have been sitting out months ago if he was hurt all along, bad management if that's the case.

Johnny has taken 2 faceoffs all season, and is 50/50. Monahan has taken 837 faceoffs, and is at 49.5%.
