I have this nagging feeling that Bernier will be a Flame next year.

Too early to tell. If Ramo maintains the December standard of play through the balance if the year then he very likely should be brought back.

I do not fault either goalie for the very early season where Brodie was hurt, Hamilton was like a deer in the headlights, and the team D zone coverage was a shambles. (I do place onus on Hiller for his play from mid Nov forward).

Ramo has been playing like a NHL number one for a good stretch. Even being 8-4 in his last 12 decisions included a 1-0 loss. Real tough to win when nobody on your team scores.

For an update on Ortio...

He got pulled after 3 minutes last night against the Texas Stars. The Heat were down 2-1 and apparently Huska wasn't happy with Ortio's preparation/focus.

Simpson came in and wasn't any better. The Stars built a 6-3 lead after 2.

Ortio was put back in for the 3rd and he shut the door, allowing the Heat to tie it up and send it to OT, where the Heat eventually won it 7-6 in a SO. Ortio was great.

I agree that 18 games is a small sample size and that we should see how the rest of the season plays out.

But you are being close-minded on Ramo.

The reason that he is playing better - and reasons are important - is that Sigalet has been working on his style, keeping him deeper in the crease where he 1) can't over-commit and 2) can utilize his athleticism. It seems to be working.

Let's wait and see how the rest of the season goes, but a 'no more Ramo after this year' attitude is silly.

I also believe that Bernier will be a Flame next year. I think Treliving is just waiting out the Leafs until the price comes down.
