Honestly I think there has been something wrong with him all season. If it's an injury they should let him rehab it for awhile or get surgery or whatever... he's not doing very well on the ice and it's better that it get dealt with.

Because Strombo dosent actually do any real reporting as far as I can tell he is just a popular guy with the younger generation brought in as a new face to HNIC to get thw younger generation in.
I don't like Him on HNIC he is just a face to market due to his popularity on mtv or much music . I can't remember where he came from originally.

So it's personal for you.
I like him. I hope he stays. He hasn't been a much music host for over a decade (?), and he's interviewed many individuals over the years from his last program. He's a professional, perhaps not your style, and he does a good job. He's also improved a great deal from last year.

He's a fan, but when Hrudey can essentially say, "I played in the league and was selected to an All Star game and I can tell you that it's an honour that shouldn't be used as a joke at the expense of a player" that should end it as far as a lay fan's input goes.
If someone who has a similar background, or has been intimately involved in the event, wants to disagree, fine, but not a guy with no sports background.

In Hrudey's era, it really WAS an honour to be selected (key word) to the All-Star game. In the 80s, for example, the Flames and Oilers each had multiple players on the Campbell Conference, in various years. This was because these selections really WERE the BEST players. And, to some extent, the games themselves actually seemed to matter to the players.
But that changed in the 90s. The All-Star game went from a representation of the NHL's best to a tool by which the NHL could further market the game in the US. Eventually, EVERY team HAD to be represented (Petr Buzek, anyone?!?) which changed the focus from "best of the best" to "try to ensure we get fans from every market interested".
The marketing side isn't a problem, per se, but the game itself has become a snoozefest as a result of the changes--i.e. no longer "best on best". Because player selection is now open to fan voting, it's hard to see the "honour" that Hrudey speaks of anymore; the game's become a massive advertisement and not what Hrudey would have known it to be. And even then, that's not necessarily a "bad" thing--but it helps to explain why guys like Hrudey would hold that opinion.

No, I know. Sedins, Sundin, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, their english is very very good, but you can still hear an accent.
Landeskog sounds like he grew up in Denver.

Ortio in particular is shocking because the Finnish/English transition seems much more difficult than Swedish to English.
As I mentioned in another thread, I learned some Swedish in high school. It is a particularly easy language and very similar to English.

you can challenge that, Hrudey was an all-star 100 years ago when the Wales and Campbell Conference actually hated each other.
The fan is the paying consumer and they're voting however they want to. They are obviously not taking this game seriously anymore.
Freidman brought up that baseball has write in votes too, But nobody votes Kawasaki into the all-star game. Because that game still has value and tradition. At some point the NHL lost that.

I forgot what secondary scoring is. I'm still in shock that they scored 4 goals without Gaudreau or Monahan. Would have liked to see Bennett get one to break his slump. Good overall tem game. They're playing better on the road of late.

...so in other words a broadcaster? he is a host.
you know chatty, upbeat, keeps the discussion on task, and in on time.
elliot's the reporter, and hrudey and kypreos are colour guys who played. i like the broadcast fine.

Hrudey is speaking as someone who played years ago, not now. His experience then has nothing to do with the players today. When Jagr is asking people not to vote for him you know it's not a huge deal. An honor? I guess in a way, but it's basically a joke now and the play on the ice reflects that.

The best accents by Swedish guys are the ones that sound vaguely cowboy-ish. Lidstrom has a pretty good drawl. Every time I see him interviewed I expect him to end his sentences with "pardner".

Happy to see Ferland have a great game tonight and be a difference maker. Really excited to see if he can consistently become that top six power winger we so desperately need. Also I'd note that he has been very disciplined - hats off to Hartley and the coaching staff on his development to-date.

He has all the tools and looks to be putting it together. He can really move for a big guy, and surprisingly good hands and hockey sense.
