So what the heck do the Flames do for a goalie next year?

Ramo's been at least very good for more than a month now. I'm sure I don't have to remind anyone that he is a UFA next year.
I can't imagine Hiller sticking around after this year. Neither Gillies nor Ortio are on the verge of being a starter. So it's starting to look like Calgary has to sign Ramo or we're screwed. And that is only if he wants to sign with us! So what do we do?

Does Ramo really want to re-sign with the team that dicked him around over the summer and into the beginning of this year? Wouldn't blame him if not. My guess is he will have options.

Ortio's not ready.

Think the best think for him now would be to head back to Europe for a couple seasons and make another run for the NHL when he's a more mature developed player. Similar to what Ramo did.

It turned out to be a wake up for him then he ended up playing over 20 games while Hiller sat out. I am sure Ramo will have no problem re-signing for next season. I always thought from the beginning that the Flames sent the wrong goaltender to AHL. I always thought it should be Hiller or Ortio but they were afraid they will lose him on a waiver. Hiller will definitely won't be coming back next season unless a miracle happens to him. I think we will see a better Ramo-Ortio. tandem next season. Ortio will rebound from his nightmare NHL season in this season.

It would be interesting to see Ramo's stats over the last 3 seasons, if we were to exclude games played in each October.
 He's got that Iggy disease.

I'm inclined to agree. Ortio seemed to make a leap last year but couldn't sustain it. Not sure what we do with him. Maybe he'll recover.

Ramo as the undisputed #1 is a little scary though. He needs competition. Not sure from who.

 How so?

They signed him on July 1 to almost 4 million dollars....no one else was giving him that.

Then he dropped the ball at the beginning of the season when he was quite simply no good. he has been great lately and as such has started every game for about 5 weeks now iirc.

He has absolutely nothing to complain about.

Ortio got hurt and it hampered his development. I think he needs a full season under his belt before we know where he's likely headed. I would like to see Ramo back on a two year deal since that's probably the minimal time it will take for any of our prospects to mature.

Fair enoug. Forgot it was July 1 - i had an incorrect memory of it dragging into August.

Anyway, if for some reason he finds an offer he likes better, we really are screwed.

The hard question is if you do resign Ramo, does he take another one year deal or do you risk signing him for 2-3 years? I highly doubt he would want another one year contract.

Ramo holds the cards a bit here. We have no prospects even close to the NHL for 2 years at least. A 3 year deal would just be standard insurance at this point.

I'll guess Ramo comes back on a 2 year deal, Hiller is long gone, and Treliving looks at UFAs or trades to get another goalie to platoon with Ramo.

Ramo hasn't earned more than a one year deal. I'm not even sure if he deserves a one year deal at this point. At any rate no rush until the off-season.

Lets see how Ramo plays the rest of the year. The season is hinging on this guy.
If he keeps it up, I'd like to re-sign him but you have to bring in another NHL caliber goalie to complement him.

At this point I don't see Ortio as an NHL level goalie. I wouldn't be bringing him back.
