Default Merry Christmas and I'm thankful for all of you.

I just want to say, I'm truly impressed with how close of a community CP is as a collective whole. I've never seen a forum that's been so committed and I'm glad I'm able to experience it with my short stint here. So far. Everything from the start of a donation for a gentleman who we thought was in much-need to investigating his true intentions and finding every bit about him. What a great way to start the New Year CP, and again I can't help but say how great of community this website really is.

Well done everyone and cheers to a great start to the new year.

I`m just happy for Bama Alum, she was labelled as a cheater and the primary reason for ranch dressings downfall and subsequent hard times in order to swindle people out of thousands of dollars. That is a pretty big accusation.

It would be patronizing to act like this board is the most appropriate stage for her rebuttal. It`s really none of our business what went on between the two of them. However, if she chooses to give her version of the events to at least clear the air and give her side of the story, I will be very happy for her. She was made out to be the villain on many message boards. Even if she did cheat on that dbag, I will be rooting for her.

Really, we only want/need answers that clarify the truth of the core elements of Ian's story. We don't need her to open up stuff that's uncomfortable or goes beyond that.
Yeah, as much as I've been enjoying reading this thread on and off this evening, I have to say that the last few pages have been kind of icky, as if this woman is being interrogated.

As someone else said, at this stage, everyone know his story is bull#### and that he's a sack of ####. Nothing this woman says is going to fix what has happened.

She handled herself in such a classy way both here and on the roids forum. I obviously don't know her at all but I'm proud of her for standing up and having her voice heard.

I just wanted to say damn you all for making this the most crazy/epic thread since the Wannamaker vote! I go to my parents for an awesome new years dinner, then log onto CP to just check this thread and I see it's doubled in size!! OMG jesus, what happened now??

Much respect to MMF and Squiggs for getting it started. And also respect to Dobbles. I know he was/is your friend and you mentioned he even came to your wedding. This can't be easy for you, and you've taken it in stride and class.

And RTA, you're brave as hell for doing what you're doing. We're a pretty respectful bunch around here, but please don't post anything that makes you uncomfortable or puts you in danger. We're just a group of nice people who got scammed and would like to know the truth, that's all. But if that truth puts you in harms way, then do what's best for yourself and not for a bunch of curious internet strangers. Sorry you have to go through all this. The world is full of ####ty people and Ian is clearly one of them.

We really don't need any details on her love life with him. Honestly it will make no difference to me if she cheated or not, she owes us no explanation and that's her business alone.

I'm more curious if/how he milked her and her family for his surgeries and if she has any info on his sob stories about his job problems and living in his car.

Never has the following meme been more appropriate.

In fact, this has been such a good read, for the first time in about 6 months I dipped into my bottle of Wild Turkey Tradition, which has been a most adequate accompaniment to this epicness.

Anyway, sorry for the interruption, please continue.

PS, in light of the earlier discussion about whether what he did was criminal - if he obtained over $5000 from people by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means, it's absolutely a crime, according to the criminal code... In fact, it's punishable by up to 14 years in prison.

However, this is under Canadian law, and the real question is who would assert jurisdiction. Arguably, the fraud took place on CP, whose servers are presumably based in Canada, so it's possible that it should be considered a Canadian crime. But the guy's clearly primarily tied to Florida, which is the basis on which US courts assert jurisdiction, and he was there the entire time he was committing the allegedly criminal activities. As far as the law in Florida goes, well...

Quote:
817.03 Making false statement to obtain property or credit.—Any person who shall make or cause to be made any false statement, in writing, relating to his or her financial condition, assets or liabilities, or relating to the financial condition, assets or liabilities of any firm or corporation in which such person has a financial interest, or for whom he or she is acting, with a fraudulent intent of obtaining credit, goods, money or other property, and shall by such false statement obtain credit, goods, money or other property, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
In case anyone was actually interested in whether the guy's literally a criminal.

To everyone here I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy hanukkah. I don't want to leave any religion out of this so I just want to wish every one of you a very merry holiday season and a wonderful new year.

Many of you know my story, I have had a very long journey in the last year with Three surgeries, unfaithful relationship and me leaving and living out of the car. With all of your help I was able to get into an apartment sooner, and get most of my furniture and everything else.

I look back on this last year as possibly the worst year of my life. But it was a blessing in disguise, found that I wasn't with the right woman, learn to treat my body better, and who your real friends are when things go bad.

My uncle that I haven't spoke to in ten years has opened back up to me, I will be spending Christmas with him in Ft. Myers. I meat the woman of my dreams and everything I could possibly dream of.

Yes I'm struggling with bills, Yes my neck is starting to bother me everyday again which I fear that I will have to have another surgery. But overall, everything is going well and a lot of it is thanks to such great people on Calgary Puck.

With that I wanted to wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope you all are with the ones you love and cherish and a very good new year.

Ian
Sorry to be like the 10th person to quote the OP but I can't believe what this seemingly innocent Christmas back-patting thread turned into. Unreal.

Nothing of substance to add, just that I had a weird feeling when he first posted this thank you. I know a lot of people like attention or like to winge, but I was starting to get the feeling all this talk about his personal life had a dark side to it. He was just always doing it. Didn't know what it was, but kinda felt like he was ALWAYS in trouble or need. Something was off. And often, as has been more accurately noted in this thread, he'd post a lowest of the low post, then be super excited or happy or friendly about something a week later. It was weird.

To be honest, I thought he might be bi-polar or have other emotional/mental issues. And such, I just kinda stayed away from the whole situation, and a lot of his posts in general. Didn't want to make it worse, but was suspicious about how much responsibility he might have for his own problems. I never had a problem with him as a person/poster. He did have some pretty conservative, borderline hateful posts every once in a while but I chalked that up to a different area and point of view than most of us and the possibility that the darker posts may have have come at a time of mental fragility, or inebriation, as he always seemed to balance them out pretty quickly. I had interacted with him a few times online and he was in the CHPL a little while at the same time I was and I never really had a problem with him, all interactions were friendly, even fun.

Lastly the whole, 'my ex did this' etc. I never bought into. And since that was central in the explanations for his problems, I took the whole thing with a huge grain of salt. For one, when it comes to relationships, there's always two sides. I try not to get to involved with people I do know well, never mind people I don't. Secondly, when it comes to internet winging I have absolutely zero faith of what people say about their exs. Far too easy to play the blame game, and far too many people eager to dump on their ex (or worse) on the internet. And sadly, it men seem to have a worse reputation for this online than the ladies.

Anyway, this is all to say, for a lot of this, I was like many of the posters here. Didn't want to say anything negative, cause didn't want to be labeled as 'that guy', but was far to unsure to give money, and stopped giving well wishes a while ago.

It has turned into a very interesting thread. I only realized what happened today, when I last saw this thread, it was still on the second page.

For RTA I'll just echo what everyone else has said here. Don't feel obligated to say anything. I appreciate the appearance, but keep yourself safe and only disclose what your comfortable with. And lastly, don't let this creep or situation mess up your life any further. Look for help if you need it, and lay it to rest if that suits you better. It's your life, your call. All the best to you, I'm sure all of us here wish you better times as soon as possible.

So the guy starts a thread here saying Merry Christmas.

And it is revealed that on another board where he has also deceived the community, he uses the user name Krampus

From Wikipedia :
In Austro-Bavarian Alpine folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts.

The irony that all unfolds as a response to his Christmas post

RollTideAlumni...This is a situation I encounter nearly daily these days (sad to say) as I work with local law enforcement (in a civilian role). What he's done to you in this way is not ok, and there is recourse that can be taken.

In this instance, I often offer the victim the website needhelpnow.ca While it's "Laws" section are Canadian and thus wouldn't be of much help to you, the site also has a lot of advice on how to get pics that you don't want on a site off of it, including resources to help you with that. I would recommend looking through that site as it can help you get those pics off that other forum and may provide some avenues for you to look at with regards to U.S. laws.

It's weird how that well that sometimes works. When you feel that something is off, it often is.

I originally posted on the thread simply because I was feeling great about Christmas and just wanted to share that feeling somewhere on CP. Didn't really matter which thread. Yet I clearly remember feeling a bit weird about the OP.

(The money didn't matter to me personally, as I never donate money to individuals in that way. Bit of a cultural thing I guess.)

I have to say I'm a bit taken back by such an established poster being essentially a scam artist. Average of 3 posts a day for 7 years, so he was clearly here for more than the money.

I guess that's one reason why I really hope RTI tells her story. Even though I never gave the guy money, I feel a bit conned simply for not realizing what he had been doing.

(That "explanation" PIMKing posted mostly made me sad. Textbook example of BS. A textbook sign of lying is too much very detailed but irrelevant information...)

Exactly. What is to gain by having his ex come and give his life story? Everyone is calling her brave and consoling her, all while poking and prodding into her very personal details for your own entertainment.

You've all alerted Gofundme, his family, every forum he's been on. I think there is enough out there to hopefully stop this guy from doing it more, but come on, at a certain point it becomes trophy hunting.

he scammed her and her family, he uploaded pictures of her on the internet without her consent and then played the victim/blamed her for everything. If she doesn't want to share anything, then that's fine. But if she's comfortable with telling her side to the story, then she deserves to clarify things after he badmouthed her everywhere. So where's the problem?

I was at a "well, that's enough" point yesterday too, but personally, after seeing the stuff he posted on that steroid forum, every last bit of sympathy/lenience for the guy went out of the window.

How many posts do you have to read of people telling her not to post anything she doesn't want to? We are not asking/forcing her to say anything at all. It's up to her. Give it a rest.
