If Gagner clears waivers, I wouldn't mind a minor league trade for him. See if he can get up to speed in Hartley's system. He'd be a potential upgrade over Mason Raymond at least...

Throw him in the bottom 6 of AHL team and let him rot there. Or send him to the ECHL and forget about him entirely.

The only way you trade for Ganger is if you send out Raymond or another bad money contract that goes beyond this year.

WTF??? Sam Gagner is garbage. We have better options in the minors. I think Mason Raymomd is a waste of a contract and a good hockey jersey, but he is a huge improvement over Sam Gagner. Gagner plays small, plays soft, can't score, and is horrible defensively. Just what we need!

7. During last Saturday’s Headlines, I reported San Jose was doing intel on Kassian, as one of his OHL coaches, Bob Boughner, is on the Sharks’ bench. There was some pushback (although not from the club itself, or the Canadiens), that their interest was not high.
A couple of sources indicated, however, that San Jose is eyeing another possibility with junior ties to the club. Peter DeBoer and Steve Spott were at OHL Kitchener with Mike Richards.
No clarity in his situation yet, but there’s logic here.

Why does anyone want to move Engelland? I don't get it.
He's easily playing up to his contract in my mind.

You have to keep both or there's money for Russell. Both expire soon enough, but Russell long-term is harder to stomach with Hartley behind the bench. He will continue to misuse him as a 22 minute defenseman

When looking at building a contending team going forward the Flames have too much money tied up in bottom players (only for the next 1-2 years).
Engellend, Smid, Wideman are the 5-7 Dmen making $11.65M against the cap next year. tack on Raymond, Stajan, Backlund, Bollig that is nearly $25M in cap space taken up by players that are not top6 forwards or top4 D.
Now I'm not suggest No all of those guys go but at least one of those Dmen and one of Backlund/Stajan and both of Bollig and Raymond will hopefully be moved.
If the Flames can free up some money they have the ability to sign Monahan, Gaudreau and get a better goalie. They also might have some money to replace Hudler

Vinny01 is right, the draft and free agents will be a good source of solid cheap role players. Flames have to keep the core intact.
Smid and Engellund, maybe even Russell could be replaced by players already in the system (Nakladal, Kulak, W'spoon).
Likewise Stajan, Raymond, Bollig (Shore, Poirier, not sure you need to replace Bollig).
Chicago has done it right - don't get attached to support players, deal them when value is high for picks prospects to keep the cupboards full.
Or like Detroit, keep the players that sign for a discount because they put the team first.
Those two franchises are the ones to emulate IMO.

Respectfully disagree. I like what Engelland brings but he is quite overpaid. He should be a $1 million/year player. He has been a healthy scratch for a few games this year.
You can't overpay for role players in a salary cap league.

Johansen playing 12:24 last night on the 4th line. Been like that for 3-4 games now.
Lol can you imagine Hartley doing that to Monahan early this year ?

I agree. We don't want people beating up on our little guys, and big guys who plays small.

I would imagine if Monahan came to camp out of shape and wasn't giving 100% in games that Hartley would have handled him exactly the same way and in fact he would have likely put him in the press box several times. There is no comparison between Monahan and Johansen as far as maturity goes.

Tortorella has no track record of being a terrible coach, picking fights with his players, ruining team morale, reducing perennial Allstars to mere plugs, and terrible results right? Lol.
If your teams future is tied to someone, you sure hope as hell they get through it by playing them 20 mins a night. Not scapegoating them in the media, benching them, and making them play 4th line minutes. Not only does that ruin their trade value...it also makes damn sure they don't give a #### about giving you any of their effort.
At this point, why should Johansen give the Blue Jackets anything? They've treated him horribly.
