I'm glad I didn't get up at 2 am to watch that crime against hockey live.

The Ducks played the perfect game to get the win and the we struggled with it all night. We need to counter this with a bit more jump and if we get the first goal, they can't play that dull garbage.

Horrific to watch but at least we got to see Kessler getting punched in the face.

That game was so freaking boring, good lord. Anaheim is what Minnesota was 5 years ago. The only good part was watching Kesler get punched in the face at the end.

Kesler doesnt even need to chase that puck. Game was over once he cleared it.
You're right and wrong. You're right that discipline isn't just for violence, but this is hardly worth supplemental discipline. He received a 10 minute misconduct which is enough. Perhaps if it becomes a pattern.

As for the league, they don't mind this stuff, and whether or not we want to admit it, we do too. Sports is really about drama, not a just a game with sticks and a puck. If that's all it was you wouldn't have a favourite team. If you're going to have a favourite, you need a rival or better yet, multiple rivals. You need good guys and bad guys. Stars and underdogs. Flash points where your favourite team has been done wrong so you want to watch the next one where they exact their revenge.

Honestly, outside of a 10 minute stretch in the second, I don't even think the Ducks were all that good. That game was dictated by the Flames mentality; pyschologically, they looked like a team that expected to lose to Anaheim and their play reflected it. Most notably in the fact that they just weren't willing to battle for pucks most of the night. Add in a bunch of forwards - especially the top line - that were mostly just standing around waiting for someone else to do the work, and we were boned. All Anaheim had to do was stack up at either the red or blue line, and let us turn the puck over practically unforced.

I saw a Flames team that struggled mightily to enter the zone and when they did they almost looked panicked because they knew their time there was limited. Players bumping into one another, passes not connecting, poor decisions overall. Doubt we see the same thing from the Kings tomorrow. Should be a much better game.

They had a lot of opportunities to tie and/or win the game in the third. Bennett is needing one so bad right now.

Thank you Dennis Wideman, for slamming Kesler's stupid head into the glass and then punching his stupid face.

Flames couldn't receive a pass to save their mother.

It reminded me a lot of some of their worst games from last season, where the synergy and team awareness was lacking. Incredibly frustrating when passes were bobbled, and equally frustrating how many no-looks were sent either to a Ducks' stick, or into an empty slot and on to bounce off the boards.

I agree. I'm always talking about the force against the dark side in sports. That doesn't mean the dark side needs to be cheap and 'ungentlemanly'. Like the Hawks are 3 time Cup champs and we don't like them. But they play the right way.

They laughed at an injured Brendan Morrison. That's way more unsportsmanlike in my mind

I don't get the 'scoring chances' metric. Hasn't everything the advanced stats has shown proven that more data is better than less? Why are we all of the sudden counting counting only shots on net/missed shots in a certain area to count scoring chances?

I suspect it was done to retaliate against the argument that certain teams have a low corsi because they only attempt shots that have a chance to score - but does it really correlate to anything or is it just a number lazy analysts can point to and say a team was whipped when corsi would be better?

If we played the Hawks in the playoffs, any notion of their good sportsmanship or playing the game the right way would be out the window in about 14 seconds.

Shots on goal doesn't tell the whole story. The theory is that shots and/or shot attempts from the middle of the slot are worth more than a floater from the blue line.

I thanked your post for this. It seemed that even our top end guy struggled with passing last night.

Boy we really need someone who is willing to throw down to play with Gaudreau. The Ducks clearly got into his head and completely shut him down and we had no answer.

I think the Ducks aren't a very good team this year and they won that game by scoring one goal and playing the trap but they really exposed how physically weak this team is.

Bennett and Ferland played well. If Bennett can fill out a bit more he can hopefully be that guy that protects Gaudreau since Monahan doesn't seem to throw the body at all.

Thank god Wideman jumped in there and pounded whichever Duck that was that put the puck in the empty net.

The best thing that can come out of this game is a wake-up call for the Flames when they face teams who can shut them down in the neutral zone. Hartley needs to switch up the strategy in these situations.
When Ramo plays well, the team has to find a way to win. Simple as that.

That team is an embarrassment to the sport from the system to the players.

Will be good for hockey if they miss the playoffs, I hope they do.

I got up to the kitchen when it happened. Then I saw Getzlaf bleeding and it made me smile. I see now that it was Kesler. #### that guy.

Funny story at the game. I was behind the ducks bench and a staff member came down and gave a broken stick to a young kid a couple seats over from me.

The kid was super excited until he and his dad realized it was Kesler's. I've never seen a kid go from excited to disappointed so fast. I think he even considered giving it back haha.
