I don't quite get it what Shapiro's comments are on the grass. Everybody wants that dark lush look, and the players want the feel. Who is he and Rogers fooling when they say it's not a priority?

They have to do feasibility studies on all the mechanics that would have to go into putting grass in and those studies won't even be completed for another season. Because of that and not having an idea of how much the final $ would be it makes sense that it isn't the #1 priority to do right away despite being the #1 priority.

If would cost say 500+ million to put grass in, do you do that, or do you find another location and build a new stadium altogether.

I don't think there is any way the Jays ever move to a new location. The stadium was bought for pennies on the dollar and it's the absolute perfect location. I've been to a lot of sporting venues, and I honestly can't think of one that is in a sweater location than Rogers Centre. Smack dab in between the financial/business district and the Lake front condo communities, and basically attached to union station.

This. They have a dirt cheap longterm lease on the land, they own it (The Stadium) outright, and it's in an absolutely primo location. They aren't going to build a new stadium unless they have literally no other choice.

I've long thought that real grass was always just a red herring perpetually dangled by Beeston anyways. Putting in grass would be a huge undertaking... you'd need to rip out the concrete flooring, install a irrigation/drainage system, install a large air circulation infrastructure and appropriate lighting. After you've spent all that time and money what you're left with is a venue that you can now no longer book for different events (less outside revenue).

They should go play few years in Montreal while they tear down SkyDome and build a bew stadium in its place.

That way they can see if Montreal should get a team again or not.

sad news today as Dave Henderson has passed away at age 57.

One of the more likeable guys to ever play the game IMO.

Cuban right-hander Yaisel Sierra has been granted free agency, MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez reports on Twitter. The 24-year-old is now free to sign with any team without restriction, as he is not subject to the international spending limitations.
Pitcher with strong 'stuff' but needing a year or two in AAA to polish. Exactly the kind of player that we traded away in Norris, Castro, Nolin, Graveman and any others that I'm forgetting. The speculation is on Yankees or Dodgers of the world, but would be a strong move for the Jays to make a serious offer.

Suggestions that he could top off in the 20M to 30M range, for 5-6 year contract. Gamble, but if it pays off that's as many as four years of quality pitcher for a good price. If it doesn't pay off, it's a slightly over paid reliever.

Would be nice to at least kick the tires on him, moves like this are found money from time to time. Doesn't seem like Shapiro's style tho.

Mid 90's fastball and Slider. Split time between starter and reliever in the Cuban National Series but mostly worked as a reliever. I dunno... doesn't strike me as someone to get excited over.

Jays have acquired Arnold Leon from the Oakland Athletics. Seemed to have strong numbers last year in AAA (PCL). Assuming he's a potential bullpen arm.

AA is going to work for the Dodgers per some reports.

Now the Jays are in talks with free-agent closer Fernando Rodney.

If they sign Rodney, I hope theres a clause in the contract that says he cant keep wearing his hat like a 12 year old.

Fernando Rodney is a good pick up but we still in desperate need of some Quality left handers in the pen.

Not sure I'm a big fan of this Rodney news but there isn't much out there in terms of relievers.
