Good point. I have my own set of rules when it comes to jerseys, and most of my rules fall into generally accepted jersey convention.
However, I have a couple quirks that I don't give a rats ass about. I have an authentic Canada 2010 jersey I had lettered with Iginla. I slapped the C on it too, because in my heart Iggy will always be the Captain of that 2010 team. If the jersey police have a problem, deal with it.

Man, a lot of you would have hated me a decade ago.
Wore my dads old jersey (fake) which had number 9¾ on the back.

Believe it or not, I don't even see that many leaf fans at various minor or junior leagues.
NHL games though, yes definitely. So many leaf fans.

The only rule I follow is - only wear a jersey of one of the teams playing. Can't wait for the jersey police to #### on my retro Bennett jersey I just purchased.

You're only a couple of months early. February 27, against Ottawa, is Retro night, so you'll be good after that (as long as it isn't one of those retros with the 1989 Stanley Cup patch).

I work a lot of Rebels games, and see a lot of Leaf jerseys.

Is there a Flames prospect playing in the game?
I'd argue that's a legitimate reason to wear an NHL jersey to a junior game.
For example, if Mason McDonald is the starting goaltender for the Charlottetown Islanders then I can wear a Flames jersey to a Cape Breton Eagles game.
That said, wear what you like.
I don't think any rules are truly hard and fast.
I have a hockey jersey with my own last name on it. Seeing how it was the organization that gave it to me unsolicited, I don't think it's a "jersey" foul to have or wear.

As long as it isn't an Oilers/Nucks jersey, you're fine. Most people wont be wearing jerseys so no one really stands out regardless of what you wear.
Plus, large swaths of 8 year old boys go shirtless most of the game, so they'll take all the attention anyways

What is the policy on wrong colour? The Nucks fan in blue behind the bench at the CAN Vs SUI game seems like a jersey foul to me.

You're fine there, he's going to wear it this season. Finally got my retro stitched back in the summer and got Gaudreau on there, which he's worn once. Huge difference between retro and vintage jerseys.
Actually had that debate with someone who knows I'm a jersey snob, razzing me about getting a current player on my retro. I tried to explain the difference between retro & vintage, and how an 80's player on a retro jersey would actually be a foul, it should only be players from 09-present. But I could tell I was making their brain bleed so I just gave up the explanation.

Sometimes Mrs. Ironhorse lets Mr. Ironhorse wear her authentic Kentucky Thoroughblades (teal) jersey with 35 Kiprusoff on it to the Hitmen game. Minor league jersey, halfway there.

Every time Mason Raymond puts on a jersey, it's a jersey foul.

That's what the schedule they sent out with the season tickets says.

Funny story. I have a bit of an inappropriate last name, at least in the English language it's considered inappropriate. I was joking around with my buddies a couple months ago and was like, "I need to play sports so I can get #69 on my jersey. [last name] #69."
So it became a running joke between our group of friends. Then for my birthday this year they actually did surprise me with the Flames jersey with my last name on the back but the jersey place refused to do #69 (understandable). They ended up just doing my birth year instead. Hell they even got the captain's C on it for me.
At first they flat out refused and wanted me to come in with my identification to prove that was my actual surname. They also said they could do #69 with a different last name, but not both together.

With regards to the retro jerseys. I think it's nearly a free pass for just about anything. I do agree that 80s players should be on the vintage and 09 up should go on a retro. But if you wanna put a Bennett on a retro I see no issue especially given the lameness of our current alternates.
The retro is the nicest sweater this team has worn in years and fully support it being an alternate sweater again
