If it's any consolation, I'm moving up there too in the next six months ... However I happen to like edmonton, even if I'm born and raised in Calgary. You'll find its not so bad, its what you make of it and dont let preconceptions get in the way.

I move here last year and quite like it. I wish the mountains were closer but I think the city is great. Lot's of great restaurants opening up and it feels cheaper than Calgary.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I've never been more disappointed in CP than I am in this thread.
Of course Edmonton is OK, but to actually admit it....
Mind bottling.

I dunno about that, but - outside of the workplace if you're in an office environment anyway - there's nowhere in that city where a baseball hat is a faux pas, even in a nice restaurant or an upscale play. I'm not even kidding.
You'll be ok, if anything it'll strengthen your resolve as a Flames fan being in that environment. If you used to live there, I'm sure you know the areas to avoid when house hunting. There are definitely some nice communities there.

If you're in Inglewood, just try to avoid going too far north to 118th, or too far south to 107th.
I had a good time in Edmonton for the 4 years I lived there. As much heat as the city gets around here, it's certainly far superior to living in Red Deer or Medicine Hat.

There's honestly no difference between Calgary & Edmonton.. Yeah I said it.
Enjoy your time in a City, living life and doing things really no different than what you'd be doing in Calgary.
Congrats to your wife!

Opened thread expecting exactly what was posted. Edmonton is fine, it's exactly like Calgary.

Lived there back in the late 90's abs really enjoyed. Mo's sports bar was great, went all the time since I worked right there. Still have good friends living there.

Don't know when you were last there, but 118th has really come around, there's been a lot of work done there, and it's a lot nicer than it used to be.

Or like watching a hockey team play defence, or win or be competently managed or owned.

On a good day Jasper is 4. Kicking Horse is 5.5, Sunshine is 4.5. So I averaged.
3.5 from Edmonton to the park boundary or Miette perhaps. Regardless, you're not exactly doing an afternoon trip out there and considering an Edmonton resident a handful of posts above you wished the mountains were closer...
To say Edmonton has the EXACT same things to do as Calgary is absurd unless you're confining that strictly to city limits.

Which, to be fair, when people are talking about a city they usually are just talking about the city.
I'd say to a lot of people proximity to the mountains isn't a big deal. Doesn't seem to matter how hard I try, I still only seem to make it once a year
