I'd be ok if the Flames took a chance on Kassian, but I wouldn't lose any sleep if they passed on him either. Think it's an interesting thought to have Kassian on the team. Flames are kind of missing that borderline dirty player to step up if Gaudreau gets hit with a dirty check or cheap hacks to the wrists.

Not a fan, but the Flames might see him as a reclamation project. Hartley was fairly successful helping Ferland turn things around.

IMO he's a far superior player to Ferland (most overrated Flame player by a mile) from the neck down but his head just isn't right and I don't believe guys that lack smarts can simply acquire them from a rehab course or two.

If Kassian clears, and i think he will, I wouldnt mind if flames traded a "c" prospect or a late round pick for him. Send him down to Stockton for most of the remainder of year and see how he does. If he is worthy of a call-up great, if not let him go at end of season. Don't think the flames should have a reclamation project on NHL roster.

Not too surprised. Most teams these days don't like picking up contracts if they can't send one back the other way.

There is also an inherent risk with someone just coming out of rehab (especially someone who has failed rehab once). It is better off to see how he handles re-adjusting to a few months of pro hockey and give him a chance next year.

Nigel Dawes had 14 goals in his last full NHL season. But the other deficiencies in his game meant he was gone to Europe quickly. And Nigel Dawes didn't have the off-ice problems Kassian does.

I'd love Kassian on the Flames. He'd be such a positive influence on the team. /s
When Kassian (+5th rd pick) was traded by Vancouver to Montreal for Prust, everyone called it an awful trade by Vancouver. Then the accident happened, and it really pointed to 'addition by subtraction' for Vancouver. No thanks.

Or they are trying to force him to mutually terminate the contract.

IMO they should take the high road here and buy him out.

They can't buy him out until the summer. CBA won't allow it. By the summer the contract is over and they can get rid of him by not qualifying him.

They probably want him gone now instead of waiting until the summer.
There must be a lot of other stuff behind the scenes that fans don't know about. Players drink and drive every summer it seems and they don't get treated this way. I guess you would treat good players like O'Reilly, Bouwmeester, Byfuglien and Johnson differently than a scrub like Kassian but they are handling Zach like he's completely toxic.

Then they are going to have to trade him or send him to the ECHL. The way they are handling this doesn't exactly make him look like a player teams will be interested in acquiring.

Well they can't assign him to the ECHL unless he consents per the CBA. And they aren't going to trade him if the deal doesn't make sense for the habs. He cleared waivers so if a team wants him they likely want to send salary back to the Habs.
