I sincerely hope all your leaf fan hopes and dreamy Stamkos dreams get crushed on FA day, when he signs in MTL or OTT.

Yeah I'm sure the NHL's cheapest owner in Ottawa will give him 11-12 per over 7 years
And what is the media fabricating?Stamkos did like 3 tweets about himself going to the Leafs.

Really? Is that from a confirmed media source in T.O? Because out here all I've heard was that he accidentally like one tweet about going to the Leafs.
EDIT: In any case, keep on dreaming big there Big tuna, it's not mine or anyone elses job to crush your Leaf loving spirit. Just perhaps try to not be such a turd about it when you visit a Flames forum.

Twice in less than four months, Steven Stamkos has favorited or liked a tweet — depending on which side of the fav/like split the incident happened — in such a way that may or may not indicate he might go to the Maple Leafs when and if (PROBABLY WHEN THOUGH!) he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. And did you know he's from Toronto? I mean gee whiz with this guy!
First there was the tweet in July linking to a navel-gazing Adam Proteau story from The Hockey News wondering if the Leafs would ever get their own LeBron; that is, a hometown superstar coming home and, I don't know, leading the Leafs to the promised land or something. He quickly undid the fave when people realized it happened, and later issued a statement through the Twitter account of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team for which he currently plays and will continue to play for at least the next few months."

After so many were owned by the "Dream On Leaf Fans, Babcock Will Never Sign With The Leafs", I'm surprised so many think they'll never get their hometown boy.

Media pressure on coaches and players are universally different beasts. if my hometown media treated me like an anchovy in a shark tank, I'd wouldn't even think twice about signing in Siberia just to get as far away from the idiotic hype machine.

I don't think they treated him badly at all. He's wanted. End of story.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Stamkos join the Leafs. They have some nice pieces in Marner, Rielly, Nylander, Kadri, JVR. Babcock is a winning coach and adding Stamkos really accelerates their rebuild.
I wonder if the is any way Treliving can get in on the bidding this summer? If the Flames could offer 7 years $65M and get him in that 9-10 range he would really put us over the top. For the Flames to be in this they would have to dump Wideman, Engellend, Smid, Raymond, and Bollig money to free up $15M in space right there. The Flames are an intriguing option for Stamkos. He would get to play in Canada but in a much smaller media market. He would get to join a team that boasts 3 extremely good young forwards (one of which is a playmaking superstar) and the team also has 3 solid Dmen signed long term.
If Stamkos wanted to play in Canada, and join a team that is on the cusp of contention then the Flames are his best fit. If he wants to play center the team can offer that and build a lone around he and Johnny. Bennett could stay on the wing and form a gritty, skilled shut down line with Monahan.

Stamkos will somehow be a Ranger. They might not currently have the cap space but you know there's a good chance. We could start a countdown to Stamkos' buyout as soon as the signing is announced. Probably a compliance buyout too, seeing as how the CBA will expire before his contract does.

I suppose you can never rule out the Rangers but one would have to think they would have to unload Nash's contract to make the fit and I don't see a lot of takers for the last few years of that deal.

That is the one place he absolutely will not go. I think he ends up a Leaf but I would love to see Yzerman re-up him for $10M per and watch them have to ship out all those good young players because they can't afford to keep them.

Yzerman has a tough task ahead of him given their Cup appearance, Bolts as a franchise would be in trouble to lose Stamkos. He would love to head for TO.

Agree with everything basically.
Except I would not be willing to pay 9 or 10 mil a year for a guy who isn't even a point per game player. Sorry.
7.5MM tops for that guy. If he wants more, Tor, Mon or NYR can waste their money.

the thing with Toronto is he can take say 7 or 8m, and endorsements playing there would raise enough that he would make just as much money making 12m somewhere else
He seems like the type who wants to thrive on the pressure too, I would be really surprised if he doesnt end up there

Meh it is debatable that he will get that much in endorsements even if he is in Toronto.
Forbes estimated Phil Kessel made only $250k in endorsements in 2014.

He kinda just looks like a skinny Kessel actually.
Now Lundqvist, that man has got it going on.
