He's no Terry Jones that's for sure. Absolutely no doubt about his homerism.

I can't see redraft where Nuge is in the top 3. He is not better than Landeskog nor Kucherov.

I think the more interesting question is where TJ Brodie would get drafted if 2008 were re-done. There are some really good defencemen in that draft: Doughty, Karlsson, Carlson, Pietrangelo, Myers, Schenn, Bogosian, Josi, Hamonic.

Holtby is in that draft.

The forward class isn't quite as deep, but Stamkos, Eberle, Stepan, Bailey, Boedker, Ennis, and Nyqvist are all in there.

I'd think TJ Brodie would probably still be a top-10 pick in that draft if it were re-done.

Stamkos
Doughty
Karlsson
Holtby
Pietrangelo
Stepan
Eberle

and then I'd think Myers/Brodie/Josi could probably go in any order.

I wouldn't take Eberle over Brodie. Not even close.

I also recall Feaster stating the 2011 draft will be key in reshaping the franchise or something along those lines. The picks all looked great after their draft +1 year. Sven was already announced the Chosen one. Granlund, Wotherspoon, Gaudreau, Brossiot all had really solid years. Gaudreau really caught everyone's attention with his ppg award winning freshman season at BC.

Looking at that draft today Sven and Brossiot are gone from the organization. Wotherspoon seems to have stalled in development after looking very promising in 2014 late season call up. Granlund has been a solid pro and looks on the verge of becoming a full time NHLer. Gaudreau has become a league wide superstar. Lastly the Flames acquired the 9th overall pick in that draft and Hamilton is a solid top 4 Dman at 22 with high end potential.

Gaudreau alone is enough to make that draft a franchise changing one.

Can you imagine if we picked some scrub who has already burned out instead? Things would be looking mighty grim.

Granlund is just an added bonus. Don't think the others will amount to anything more than bubble players.

I'd take Josi and Myers over Eberle as well.

I'm pretty sure Eberle would go pretty much were he was taken. 22 seems about right for that class.

I always look at Tom Erixon as the gift that keeps on giving.

We were forced to trade him to NY ...along with a fifth rounder.

Feaster states that because they didn't have a fifth rounder in the 2011 draft, that it was 'now or never' when they selected Johnny.

Imagine if Erixon never demanded that trade. Imagine if we still had the fifth rounder in 2011. Imagine if Feaster then decided to wait one more round before selecting Gaudreau. Would he have still been available at that pick???

Thanks Tom!

I recall reading something about Weisbrod being at Boston's table when Calgary selected Gaudreau. He stated the entire table was disappointed because they had him pegged for their next pick.

So yes, thanks Tom!

If we didn't pick Gaudreau we probably have a top 5 pick in the 2015 draft

Imagine we missed out on Gaudreau because Sutter traded a third for Steve fricken Staios!
Sutter drafted the following players outside the 1st round who ever became NHLers

Pardy
Boyd
Prust
Brodie
Bouma
Cracknell

6 picks out of 46 after the 1st round, about a 13 percent success rate

Feaster snagged

Ferland
Gaudreau
Granlund

3 out of 21 our around 14 percent with time left for at least 2 more legitimate prospects (Gillies and Broissant) along with a couple outsiders. It is pretty clear that Feaster's existing list is better than Sutter right now.

Yup, I recall that article too. Weisbrod said they were about to select Gaudreau with their next pick.

You know you've made a good pick when the response is an explosion of profanity from the other teams' tables.

Arizona and Boston were both interested in Johnny.

Also don't quote me on this, but I'm fairly certain Toronto and Arizona were also groaning when Calgary took Kylington at #60 this year. I read that somewhere.

Would most not rather have Doughty right now for 8??(somewhere around there per year) and his 2 cups, rather than Stamkos and what is going on with him now?

Just saying I'd personally put him at the 1 spot

Doughty at #1, for sure... I'd take Josi ahead of Eberle, and likely Brodie right after Josi...so, I guess that'd be #8 overall

I was told Chiarelli wanted to take Gaudreau with their 3rd rounder but Neely and Fitzgerald wanted this Camara kid because he played with grit and determination. Fitzgerald supposedly said at the table "We might even be able to get him(Gaudreau) with our 5th pick,no need to use our 3rd, I like Camara if he's still there" Neely nodded and that was it.

But Chiarelli was nervous and thought Jersey or Nashville might take him and offered his 4th and 6th to move up but couldn't find a partner.

Flames really hid the fact they knew much about him or even knew of him at all. The rest as they say is h.......
