An interesting article with data behind what seems to be driving people's opinion on whether you should say Merry Christmas.
http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/...appy-holidays/
My favourite quote
Quote:
Support for “happy holidays,” however, drops dramatically for secular citizens in largely nonreligious states like Oregon. In these areas, the social stakes are low — Christmas is not an entre to conversations about what church you attend, but more about presents, ugly sweaters and Santa. In such nonreligious states, seculars’ support for “happy holidays” is the same as it is among evangelicals nationwide (48 percent).

I say "Happy Holidays" pretty much exclusively now because it pisses idiots off.

I think it's more fun to piss the PC crowd off than the "war on Christmas!" crowd.
Both easy marks though.

Yeah, it's a tough call. I think the Christians are funnier though because of the insane persecution complex. The PC crowd are largely just disingenuous.

Happy Holidays doesn't offend me from a religious (or anti-religious) point of view, but just a sensory one. It is just so bland and generic sounding. Why take the fun out of it?

I've literally never met someone who got upset when someone said merry Christmas. Ever

Because not everyone celebrates xmas for a number of reasons. Personally, I think xmas is $4!t in religious and consumerism contexts. I wouldn't miss it if it inexplicably disappeared. I prefer Happy Holidays because that's what it is to me; just a holiday. I won't lose my $4!t if someone wishes me a merry xmas but I take it for what it is and that is well wishes. I can handle that.

Upset no, but I've definitely had the "uhh, I'm not a christian" snark. I've never met the other side who complains about happy holidays, but I just think that's because we don't live in the Bible Belt. I'm sure people down there lose their minds.

Left or right, it generally takes being in a group of like-minded individuals before you get a good taste of the fringe.

Not everyone celebrates every holiday, but to get offended because someone else uses the terminology related to that holiday is dumb. It would be like being offended at the Chinese New Year symbolism that has roots in shamanism and animism. Just because I don't celebrate it, if others want to, then go nuts.
We should be celebrating and promoting diversity, not toning it down IMO.

I'm not offended by it but I tend to say Happy Holidays as it is a pretty inclusive phrase. It feels nice to be included so that is why I say it.
And because some people get bent out of shape when I say Happy Festivus.

The cashier was consequently fired that evening.

I have been in Maui for almost two weeks now, visiting different stores and restaurants everyday. And not once in almost two week have I heard Happy Holidays, it's always been Merry Christmas.
What a bunch socially, politically and culturally incorrect Islanders here!

Life must be good if people have the time to complain about any of these things
