For Star Trek fans
I just wanted to throw this up there. For Star Trek Fans it looks like Space is running a marathon of the 1974 animated series tomorrow (ok today), this series featured the voice talents of the original cast.

These are terrible. These are bad and they should feel bad. Why are the Romulans in Klingon ships?
I cant believe the original cast agreed to this. Were they that hard up for work in the 70s?

In TOS episode "The Enterprise Incident" Spock says:
"Intelligence reports Romulans now using Klingon design."
So at least consistent in that regard.
And yes- I think they were hard up enough for easy work like voice recording. Also if there were any personality conflicts- the actors don't need to be in the same room.
I will agree that they are horrible though.

I watched 2 or 3 of them and they're just bad.

In one of the books that Shat wrote about his life between and the movies he talked about his divorce, being left broke and doing theater in small towns while living in a crappy trailer in parking lots and camp spots because he couldn't afford much more.
None of the original cast members were making a lot of money between Star Trek TOS and the movies that came out in the late 70's.
So I can understand why they did the show. And yes they were bad, but I revelled in their badness when I was growing up.

This is the era of Scooby Doo, etc. Animation was in a terrible state at the time, as were the finances of the main cast. Most of them were doing bit-TV parts and commercials.
The show didn't even hire Walter Koenig because they couldn't budget for him so they got a bunch of furries voiced by James Doohan.

Walter Koenig takes it on the chin again.

Yeah, the catwoman communications officer and the funky alien with a speech impediment were terrible.
Its hard to believe that this was probably state of the art animation for its time.
I had forgotten how terrible some of the stories were in that series.

When Star Trek became an animated TV series, they had a budget, and they hired Bill Shatner, and Leonard, and Jimmy Doohan, and Majel Barrett to do the voices. When Leonard found out about that, he asked, “Why aren’t Nichelle and George on board as well?” They said, “We don’t have the budget for them.” And Leonard said, “Star Trek is about diversity, and the two people who represent diversity most are Nichelle and George, and if they can’t be a part of this project, then you don’t want me.” He was willing to walk off that show for us. That takes guts and principles and loyalty. It was because of that strong position that he took that Nichelle and I were hired to do the voices on the animated series as well. He’s that kind of guy.
