This actually isn't true, Shane Homes did nothing illegal. Nenshi had to admit as part of the settlement, that Shane Holmes did not violate any election laws.

It's actually completely true and Nenshi had to admit otherwise because he isn't as rich as Wenzel.

I would assume that under the sealed terms of the settlement, they both spent Wenzel's money.

What Wenzel did may have been shady, but it didn't break any laws. Nenshi was wrong in his assumptions about Shane Homes, and had to admit it. Has nothing to do with how much money Wenzel's got.

The way I understand the summary judgement procedure, a party may request a faster resolution of a dispute by asking the judge to hear the case and render a decision without jury (requested by the defendant). Wenzel tried doing that and his application got rejected. Because of that he had to pay $10K in Nenshi''s legal fees for having to respond to Wenzel's summary judgement application. There could be more details which I am missing, but this has nothing to do with the legal costs incurred by Nenshi so far on his defense lawyers.
In Herald, his legal fees have been estimated in "hundreds of thousands" of dollars. Council is split on this issue but I am certain they will vote in favour of covering them. Just to set up a precedent, as each one of them could be sued one day for something.

Wasn't Nenshi actively campaigning when he made those statements? If so, He should pay his legal bills out of his campaign funds.

The City in no way should be responsible for Nenshi's legal bills. Full stop. If you make public, defamatory, ignorant statements, you are on your own. Even if Wenzel is guilty of what Nenshi is accusing him of, there are a thousand other ways he could have said it professionally without calling the guy a gangster.

Worst part is he refused to even retract the statement, let alone apologize.
Wenzel's no saint either but Nenshi would be such a good mayor if he didn't have such an ego.
I hope taxpayers aren't on the hook for his legal bill.

If he was wrong then he should have manned up and admitted it, and while I'm in no way familiar with the nuances of the case it certainly appears as though Wenzel attempts to financially bully Nenshi into apologizing via the Judicial system.
If he wasnt wrong then he shouldnt apologize, that isnt ego, thats standing up for yourself.
It appears that its more of a gray area than that, but still, only apologizing to end court proceedings is empty and yeah, I'd have done it sooner.
If I had a dollar for every empty and insincere apology I've ever made I'd be no wealthier than I currently am. But still.

I disagree with FlamesFan77 for calling you a shill for Nenshi.
