People vote according to a bunch of different values. Economic. Social. Regional. A goodly number of NDP supporters are uneducated and socially-conservative union workers. A lot of Conservatives voters are progressive and urbane white-collar workers who just want to keep more of their paycheque. Quebecers tend to be much more communitarian than the rest of Canada when it comes to economics and the role of government, but they're also far more culturally chauvinistic and wary of immigrants and their foreign practices.

To bring this back to U.S. politics, the Republican party is essentially a coalition of affluent pro-business types, rural small-government types, and angry social conservatives (with some overlap, of course). The angry social conservatives are becoming increasingly frustrated that they never get their way when the Republicans are in power, and that they're just being used as chumps by the plutocrats who run the party. The Tea Party, and now Trump are the vehicle for expressing their dissatisfaction.

The one thing I did find interesting about this poll, based on what you just described, was that Quebecers were generally more opposed to Trump's comments than the rest of Canada.

I see a lot of this from the white, 30-somethings on my feed.

Of course, my social network is hardly a broad sample.

Totally, but it's pretty human for your brain to subconsciously extrapolate it. It's also why I get to roll my eyes at all my wonky, leftist friends who post David Avocado Wolfe memes.

#### Avocado Wolfe is the worst.

We should have a "Dumb Things On Facebook" thread. I could fill that thing from all sides of the political sphere.

I must say, CliffFletcher is one of my favourite posters on political issues. Always rational, ideology-free, rhetoric-free and respectful of the opponent's view. It's a pity we don't have many politicians expressing their views this way.

30% of Republicans would support the bombing of Aladdin.

A new national survey has found that 30 percent of Republican primary voters would support bombing Agrabah, the fictional country in Aladdin.

He's basically Hippie Tony Robbins. I'm unsure if you can make money from being a well-known Facebook idiot, though apparently you can get a lot of greasy hippies to take a picture with you.

I'm too much of an 'on the other hand' kind of a guy to ever get elected. But thanks.
