Probably because he isn't doing so hot in the AHL.

I think Ortio must have done something to pi$$ off the coaches. If you come off as lazy and then you don't preform, you won't last long on the team. I think if he wants a fair shot, he'll have to work even harder to get just a chance.

Some Mike Straw guy reporting this:
Told the #Sabres have reached out to CAL about David Jones and AZ about Boedker. Nothing close/being negotiated, but feelers have been sent
Can't really see BT moving a RW when it's a organization weakness, especially with Frolik getting injured as well... Maybe as he's a UFA..

Jones is having a decent season so far. Has escaped the injury bug too for the most part.
If they were to trade Jones, now would be the time to get the most out of moving him. His stock is never going to get higher.

Two weeks ago, the speculation on both sides (TO and Cal) was that a Bernier/Grabner for Hiller/Raymond swap was fair. Next year they would be paying Raymond, next year we would be paying Bernier. Still the best scenario for all involved. Bernier has played himself into less value, and Raymond has played himself into more. I think TO wouldn't hesitate.

Hiller for Bernier would be a solid trade. Even if we had to add a little I'd be fine with that. Not sure who at sportsnet heard that but hopefully someone with some credibility. It might make sense if the Leafs just want to get rid of his contract and Hiller being UFA at years end is more attractive to them.

The rise of Garet Sparks will definitely help grease the wheels on a bernier trade. Once Babcock likes you, it's over for everyone else.

With regards to Jones, any trade with him depends on what the return might be. An intriguing prospect, a roster player, 3rd rounder or higher and I'd say sure, why not?
But if its something feeble like a 5th-7th or a player with little or no chance of playing in the NHL, then I'd rather we just hang onto him.

McKenzie: All signs point to Stamkos leaving Tampa
http://www.tsn.ca/all-signs-point-to...tampa-1.410192
Quote:
If Tampa isn't going to sign Stamkos, or at least get fully engaged in talks towards that end, the Lightning have three options:
1. Trade him as a rental on or before the Feb. 29 trade deadline. Grab a first-round pick and a prospect or two — the going rental rates at the deadline — and move on.
2. Sign and trade Stamkos.
It is, by hockey standards, an unconventional approach, but if Stamkos did designate a favoured landing spot, Tampa could do a contract extension on behalf of the new team and trade him there, presumably for a higher trade yield than rental prices.
3. Don't trade Stamkos and play it out; go as far and as deep as they can with him in their lineup and then bid him adieu in the off-season, taking his current $7.5 million in cap space, or the $9 to $11 million they might've paid him, and spend it elsewhere next season.
Of course, the Bolts are not masters of their own destiny in the first two of those three options.
Stamkos has full no-movement and no-trade clauses. He isn't going anywhere before the trade deadline unless he wants to engineer his own departure. It seems doubtful he would go down that road, but no sense speculating. It's too early.
The only advantage to the sign-and-trade for Stamkos is that he can get an eight-year deal from Tampa, a seven-year deal from anyone else on July 1. Does that even matter to him? Beyond that, is there any advantage to picking a new home by Feb. 29 instead of July 1?
And, realistically, what team is going to give up significant players and/or draft pick assets to Tampa before Feb. 29 when it could just sign him on July 1 with an acquisition price of gratis?

I just don't think there's enough money for Stamkos to sign in T.O. His time with the T.O media yesterday would scare anyone off.

Hiller for Bernier would be a worthy gamble. Bernier is still rather young and has time to turn things around.

Also, with Stamkos in his prime years, why would he go to an organisation so far off winning a cup? He'd surely only waive his NMC/NTC to go to a contender.

Hiller and Raymond for Bernier and Grabner would be great. Unless management sees the team picking up a proven starter.
Stamkos and Bishop to the Flames....

Man, it would be pretty sweet if Treliving was able to sign Stamkos as a UFA for reasonable dollars in the summer. Imagine how pissed off Oilers / Leafs fans would be ha ha.

I don't see us being able to keep both Gaudreau and Monahan, lead alone a new goalie, if we signed Stamkos, though.

I can't wait for Stamkos to have a new contract (whether it's with Tampa or someone else) just so people stop speculating about him coming to Calgary.

Stamkos will be a Leaf this time next season. No need to even speculate on him being a Flame or anywhere else. You could see the Leafs intentions this offseason was to clear up as much cap space as possible to make a run at him and it's always been his dream to play for the Leafs. Much like with Babcock to Toronto this one seems like one of those rumours that will finally come to fruition.

Yeah, I can't imagine what would entice Stamkos to come to Calgary, unless we backed up the money truck. Even then, there would be plenty of other teams scrambling to do the same, and while Calgary isn't the Edmonton of free agents, they're still not top of many lists I'm sure.
Just can't picture it.

If I'm Stamkos I'm heading to the Predators. They would instantly become contenders for the entire contract.
