Yup, when I was in the car business, all the dealers did was give them a bit of a deal on the car, but they never lost a nickel. Basically they sold the car at 1 or 2% over invoice to get a mention in the lotto flyer. It's great, cheap advertising for a dealer.

Wenzel's been ordered to pay $10K to Nenshi for legal fees. Bet that sticks in his craw a bit.

The lawsuit isn't over, but that is still a bad sign for Wenzel. He should probably cut bait and run, but I doubt his ego will let him.

It was a summary judgment application. It was never likely to succeed but if it did, the payoff makes the $10,000 penalty for losing small change. This is just a small deal, it doesn't compensate Nenshi for what he would have spent fighting it. It makes a good headline though.

Me either, but Wenzel has too deep of pockets for Naheed to fight this using his own money indefinitely

Interesting that the remaining terms aren't released. I wonder if Wenzel agreed to pay all the legal bills in exchange for his apology.
The city should cover the bill though if Wenzel didn't pay.

Will Shane Homes still be around in a year? Will Nenshi? It would be funny if Shane hired him after he is done being mayor.

I remember thinking at the time that everything Nenshi said was fair comment. I'm surprised he agreed to retract and apologize but I guess he thought it wasn't a hill to die on, which is good IMHO shows his ego doesn't cloud his judgment on where it's worth spending money. I'm sure everyone would have forgotten about the clandestine video on the next news cycle 2 years ago if Wenzel hadn't sued, now it's in the news again.

As much as I soured on Nenshi since 2010, I do recall somewhat supporting his comments.
But at the end of the day, Nenshi took to the radio and said a prominent businessman, who Nenshi had a sour relationship with, had broken the law. It wasn't proven (now being retracted completely) and it certainly wasn't a comment made by Nenshi in a mayor capacity. If Nenshi had honestly thought Wenzel broke the law, there's certainly more appropriate channels he should have taken.
So why should our tax money go to a mayor who doesn't know when to shut up?
More importantly, the lawsuit was filed after Nenshi refused to apologize for his comments.

Yeah there's ego, and then there's ego with coin. Nenshi should have just apologized and saved 100k. Will be interesting to see if he sends a bill to the city for these comments.

The "apology" was needed to allow everyone to move on from this ridiculous distraction and waste of time. I'm glad he made that decision.

Looks like he should have made that decision in 2013 when first asked to...

If he had been found to have committed libel then maybe he should be responsible for the bill.

Isn't that a bit of a slippery slope? I mean here we are talking about Nenshi, so that is one candidate. If this was say Larry Heather who made some comments should the city pick up a tab for his defence as well? I think not, personally.

Assuming you aren't putting more significance on libel than defamation, he just settled the defamation lawsuit. It's arguable that he would have been found to have committed it if he didn't agree to the settlement...
