Default What Goalie Mask Do You Use?

Hey Folks, I'm in the market for a new goalie mask and I wanted to hear what some of you used. I'm currently debating on a Hakva or a Sportmask, as the sizing seems to fit my massive melon and the price range at around $500 is within my budget. I've found most Itech and Bauer masks don't fit, or if they do, they're far too expensive.

Thoughts or opinions on these two brands?

I have a pretty hefty melon as well, and I use the Itech (back in the day), now Bauer 9601.

It's pricey but worth the money IMHO based on how many shots I take off the mask (dozens per season). I'm sure it has saved me from many concussions...

I've got a Hackva and while it's a bit heavier than the more expensive masks I've never had an issue at all with taking a puck off the mask. Even had a few where guys have huge shots and never had any concussions.

blah, for wahtever reason it pastes as a picture and then turns to a link - so much for a shot at humour.

I've got a large noggin and even wider forehead. Bauer and iTech never fit. I used to have an XL reebok 4K until I switched to Hackva. The difference in my line of sight was much improved as my face sits closer to the cage now. They are expensive but worth it to have a helmet that actually fits properly.

I'm a huge fan of Sportmask. I have myself a Sport Mask Mage RS and loving it, only thing bad about this is that it doesn't come with the sweat bands that other mask's come with. It's quite an old mask but it's my favorite one to wear for Ice.

The other mask I have is the Bauer 930 with the Certified Cage that NHL goalies wear. Both mask are not suitable for shinny but since I play with beginner's I've been pretty safe thus far.

I am also debating on whether I should get another Mage RS or go with the 960's as they are good for Shinny but man are they expensive.

I heard from the guys at B&P Cylce that Hackva is now out of business unfortunately, so if you can get your hands on one, I would grab it.

I've read a lot of good reviews on Hackva, but yes they have gone out of business.

So the lifetime warranty on the shell is no longer of value, although the fact that they even had one in the first place should give you an idea of the quality of their product.

I don't have a huge noggin but the Hackva (Large) actually fit me versus other models. They have them at Tuxedo Sports if you want to try one on.

The problem with Hakva is now the mask has no warranty, which kinda sucks. Plus even if I wanted to get one, all they had was a medium.

I went to BP today and really the only mask that fit was the Sportmask X8. I tried the higher end Sportmasks on, but they were tight in a couple spots. The X8 fit perfectly. I have it on hold pending another decision.

Not sure how fast you want your mask but if you join this group and talk to Tony Priolo (creator of Sportmask) through PM. He can get you a custom fit one if you wanted.

Check out the goalie shop next to Professional Skate Service off crow child. Might get lucky if they have a few left in your size.

Bought a Hackva last year at the centre street source. Love it.

Had an old Itech prior and shots to the noggin are night and day.

For scrimmages I use a Sportmask mage and Rbk carbon 9k.
I fitted the Sportmask razor cage on to bothe helmets.

For league play I use the Kit you can request from Eddie masks so they can make a custom mask fitted to your face. I just use a cateye with a diamond shaped middle bar usually but a ref made me switch it out for a regular cat eye last game during warm ups.

I like the mage for having more motion for my neck but I have been using Eddie masks custom kits since Belfour started makeing masks . This would be my first choice.
