I actually liked the Engine Room design, I've always hated the really simplified engine room in TNG for example that looked more like a hotel conference room with a lava lamp in the middle.
The Enterprise-A engine room in Wraith of Kahn even made sense because at the heart of it there's still going to be machinery and pumps and pipes and all of that stuff. But the clustered machine rooms in the first reboot were in my mind pretty logical. The Warp Core in the second one reminded me of the hyper drive reactor in Return of the Jedi.

The official story, even from Simon Pegg himself is that the original script by Roberto Orci (when he was writing and directing the movie) was considered too "Star Treky" for the studio. Paramount Pictures wanted something with more mainstream appeal and wanted something like Guardians of the Galaxy. Pegg then took over and started from scratch, throwing away the original script and keeping nothing but the name.
Hence, you get a Star Trek written by a comedian and directed by the guy who did The Fast and the Furious.

lol wow they didn't even try to make that accurate.
The location looks nothing like COP or Calgary. They're using new skis with the new Rossignol logo and the real Eddie Eagle says that only "10-15%" of the story is accurate. So he was British and went to the Olympics?

Where did they film it? You'd think that doing it at COP would have been a no-brainer since everything is still there
Right....like Superman is the only one getting day drunk in the East Village in the late 80s. You were getting a sobriety award if you weren't shooting up. I'm sorry, if you're a parent and you're bringing your kids for strolls through the East Village, you have no right to stick your nose up at anyone.
My first impressions of the Beyond trailer are pretty positive... I like that it looks like it's heavily an alien world/race movie, which is more like TOS. Less like the ship-based action of T:NG, which is what the first two movies in the reboot felt more like.
Also yes, you'll notice that Superman isnt exactly alone in that East Village pub packing back shots of low-rent scotch in the middle of the day and contemplating riding the C-Train in a liquor-induced stupor of scotch and sadness.
