There haven't, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Recall that Erixon led the Flames on that he was planning to sign with them until the 11th hour.
Not saying Jankowski would do that, but he could.

I don't see it as an issue. The Flames used a 1st round pick and supported this player since he was drafted. His buddy Gillies is here, we have a young team but still need a big center like him. No brainer to sign here

Won't stop the circus. Especially considering there's a strong chance he'll be playing pay the end of the regular season and can't sign before the off season when the speculation ramps up

Just like Gaudreau, this kid has good character. I'm not going to panic this time.

He could technically play for the Flames in the playoffs if we make it. Similar to how Kreider debuted with the Rangers after BC won in 2012

Another way to assess the Jankowski pick is to look at whether he will turn out better than Kyle Turris or an equivalent.
There was speculation that the Flames were in on Turris who eventually was traded for David Runblad and a 2nd round pick.
Feaster may have been able to get Turris for the Flames first round pick that year.
According to Feaster and Weisbrod, they thought the draft was weak and the first rounder was in play (maybe for Turris); however, according to Weisbrod, after he saw Jankowski, he told Feaster not to trade the pick.
Will Jankowski turn out better than Turris or an equivalent type return?
Turris sure would look nice right now in the top 6 with Gaudreau, Monahan, and Bennett. Although with Turris, maybe the Flames don't finish where they do to draft Monahan and Bennett.

Not only that, but I would guess one of Stajan or Backlund (possibly both) are gone next year, so it's not like there won't be a space to compete for.

Fair point. But I was just wondering if another team had hired his Dad and drafted his brother in order to pry him away from us.

Well Jankowski can sign at any moment, even right now, nothing is stopping a College player from making the jump except their commitment to that program in theory.
The timing is a little tricky this season however. Most years The Frozen Four tournament ends a little earlier then the NHL regular season. For 2016 the finals are April 9th, the Flames final game is the same day. All that is moot if the Friars go all the way again but they're certainly even stronger this year then when they won it last. Could play in the playoffs if we're in that position however.
He was ready to sign last year with Gillies, things can change but I'd be surprised if he isn't inked by the Flames the moment his season ends, regardless of when that is.
Won't stop the circus though, that's right.

I'm not panicking either, I'd say over 90% he signs with the Flames. It's not fair to say that's because of character though. There's 29 other teams that would've treated him the same, it's not like he's be a bad person here for choosing elsewhere.

I bet the Rangers have already started a 3 prong campaign to sign him.

Great to see Jankowski having such a good senior year.
It was still a poor decision to make a project pick at that point, especially when the likes of Teravainen, Maatta, Girgensons, Hertl were all available at #14.
Still think there is a very real chance he decides to go UFA, and picking a project player from the NCAA makes that a very known possibility at the time of the draft...just poor decision making all around.
But focusing on the player himself...he looks like he has a good shot to make the NHL...I'll certainly be pulling for him.

Well if his uncle suddenly resigns from Hockey Canada and joins a NHL team, then we will know we are in trouble.

One thing I was guessing on, was that Jankowski wanted to sign with the Flames the same time as Gilles. However, management may have actually asked him to play another year so that he could be exposed to leadership experience amongst other facets of the game.
I honestly don't think he will walk. But I'm optimistic.

Lol, good looking player but bad pick because you stubbornly said so at the time? If the player is good, the pick is good. It honestly seems like the perfect time to have taken a project player. He is on exactly the timeline that he was projected to be on, and looks seriously good doing it.
What do you think is a 'real' chance? 5%? 50%? Anything to keep the bogus narrative of 'bad pick' alive, right?

I think that's probably the key right there. If Calgary can't do what they did for Gaudreau and Arnold and burn a year off his ELC, then you really can' blame a guy for thinking "Hmmmm, I have a chance to sign with absolutely anyone"
I don't know if he would do it, but you couldn't blame a guy for thinking it.
