Icon40 Blackhawks trade Daley to Penguins for Scuderi (1/3 salary retained)

Pittsburgh Penguins @penguins
The #Pens have acquired defenseman Trevor Daley in exchange for Rob Scuderi.

And this is why Chicago did it, gain about a million in cap space this year and next:

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
PIT retains 1/3rd of Scuderi's salary in that CHI-PIT trade

Scuderi is a better defender IMO. Daley can add offense for a Pittsburgh team that has struggled to score, but he's a bit of a liability defensively. Good deal for the Blackhawks if you ask me.

Thought Daley was going to be a big addition to the Hawks. Apparently not.

With salary retention it is not as bad for the Hawks.

A TRADE?!!!

My parents told me about these mytical things and how the use to frequent the league during non-draft and deadline times. I never really believed them, but wow was I wrong.

Amazing.

Perfect fit for both teams, really. Chicago can use the help in their own end and Daley was barely getting ice due to the 3 D that already add Offense.

Pitts get a guy that can QB a 2nd unit or help move the puck up ice.

Edit: Merry Christmas guys!

Scuderi is terrible.

With this move, the 'Hawks are now $2.4 million under the cap...a pure Cap move...Now our 3rd pair is a cumulative 73 years old...and Scuderi has another year on the current contract at a $1.4million hit. Pittsburgh retains 1/3 of Scuderi's salary.

Not sure where you are getting your numbers from, but Scuderi has a cap hit of $2.25 million for this year and next with salary retained.

edit: It looks like you think because his actual salary goes down in the final year, his cap hit will too. This is not the case

Ah they probably don't need cap space anyways, they'll just find some superstar guy playing in the KHL who will only sign with them.

Sureloss...http://stats.nhlnumbers.com/teams/CHI?year=2016...I am no accountant, but, I believe that they have factored in the retained salary portion...
