Situations change, but the crop of upcoming UFA goaltenders doesn't look very good either. Khudobin is one of the better names on that list.

I use to be so stoked for Ortio. Then everytime I look at his numbers on hockeydb I realize he is not going to be the solution either. I don't think hes ever going to be a starter. I think he will be a back up at best.

I'd say claim him, because the potential reward is more than the small cost (contract). He has been a decent goalie before this year.
Hiller and Ortio don't really deserve to be playing at the NHL level at this point. I know Ortio only got 2 games in the NHL this year, but with Gillies injured long term, we might as well make Ortio get as many games as possible down there for now. Maybe his numbers will come around.

I voted yes but with some reservations.
Waiving Hiller is meaningless because no one will claim him. So that just leaves a lot of bad goalies around and only one net in Calgary and one in Stockton. If Hiller plays in Stxokton then Ortio and Poulin sit and rot.
But you have to do something. If Ramo decides to start crapping the bed again the season is lost.

Does anyone really care if Poulin sits and rots besides Poulin?
I don't get why so many people are concerned about him.

Imagine what would happen if Ramo gets hurt...
Let that sink in for a moment...
Now do you claim Khudobin?

Let's not pretend Ramo is any good. If he gets hurt Ortio comes back and we continue to run with 2 crappy goalies. If we claim Khudobin that is just another crappy goalie to add to our crop of crappy goalies.

If the team has identified him as someone who they like and want long term, they might consider adding another goalie into the circus, but there is no way they are doing that based on the logic of 'oh well he couldn't be any worse.'
Otherwise, best to keep a clear head and wait until someone they specifically like becomes available. Much more likely to get lucky that way. They are on a winning streak. No need for blind desperation.

I'd say go for it. The main question to me is whether he's an upgrade over Hiller, and personally I think he is. He's not a star goaltender, but decent enough to do well in a 1A/1B situation with Ramo for the remainder of the season. I don't see any downside to this - waive Hiller and send him down, maybe he finds his game again down there (doubt it though, I think he's pretty much done as an NHLer). If Khudobin doesn't work, then you just waive him again.

Exactly. So we'd have lots of goalies. Who the hell cares? As long as the guys that deserve the starts get the starts, I don't see it as much of a problem
If he's going to play like he has, who cares if Hiller sits out the rest of his North American career on the bench in Stockton

I make a claim on Khudobin if I'm Treliving and he drops to Calgary. Khudobin had some solid seasons with the Canes before joining the Ducks. He's only had 8 games with the Ducks and his stats are better than any of our goalies at this point. I see Khudobin as an insurance policy for Ramo, I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that Hiller is on his way out.

I answered no at first, but have changed my mind.
Both Ramo and Hiller are UFAs after this season.
Ramo I don't mind that much, Hiller I can't stand.
Bring in Khudobin, also a UFA, waive Hiller and send him down.
Then let Ramo, who's been better as of late, and Khudobin battle it out this season the way Hiller and Ramo did last season.

Seriously? you guys want to bring in a 29 year old goaltender who's never been a true number one and is a ufa at the end of they year? On top of that, you want to send 4.5 million to the minors? What do you think that does to team moral, on a team who suffered early partly because of the circus of having three goaltenders on the roster? Now's not the time to roll the dice on a older, unproven, pending ufa. If that's what were hanging our hats on to push for the playoffs, we're in big big trouble.
Has there ever been a player put on waivers where someone on here hasn't suggested we pick him up?

What do you think letting in 4 muffin goals a game does for team morale?

The answer to all of your questions is yes.
Nothing to lose at this point. The worst case is that he's an utter failure, which is one par with our current goaltending.

What makes you think Khudobin will be better? Also, we've already seen the results of a goalie gong show at the beginning of the season. How'd you like that?

Well I do agree that under no circumstance would I do the 3 goalie thing again, that would be a disaster. But if we ditched dead weight Hiller I would be fine with it. I am just so fed up with crap goaltending, we all are.

If Ramo gets hurt, the Flames are no worse off.
Not sure where this notion that Ramo is any good came from.

Really? We're on a win streak, Ramo will be back in as number one and were only 2 points out of a playoff spot. so you really can't see a larger downside of what's being proposed?

Our goaltending needs to improve, no doubt. If the Flames can make a measurable improvement they should do it, but to gamble on an older, unproven, pending ufa is not the answer.
