Considering how awful our goaltending and special teams are, it's quite astonishing how the Flames have managed to claw their way back into the playoff race. Gotta give major props to the team for fighting through that stuff and actually stringing a few W's together. Imagine where they'd be in the standings if they had even average goaltending, PP, and PK?

It is just so impressive watching this team win games.

Last year: Outshot, out-possessed, and down by a couple goals in the 3rd? Win!
This year: Bad goaltending, breakdowns, worst PK and PP in the NHL. Win!

Flames to start the season were just not that confident bunch. They didn't have that swagger. They would kind of 'lose it' just like every other team does when things don't go their way. Now they are back to playing hard right up until the buzzer sounds with a bit more confidence and swagger. Sure, the Rangers managed to come back and tie it up - which is a terrible sign - but the Flames continued to play hard. Just a bit unlucky, and the Rangers are (and I hate to say it) a very good team that when they press, it is difficult to contain them.

Once the PP and PK get figured out, and once Hiller and Ramo return to last season's numbers (just need one of them to become 'average' again), this team will start rocketing up. I thought the season was over. Foolish me. They caught up even while things haven't been going well in so many areas!

Also, just a treat to watch. An absolute treat to watch Brodie and Gaudreau out there. A treat to watch Bennett just getting better and having the confidence to try more out there. This team will be a treat to watch for the next decade.

We are 2 points back of them with a game in hand because we're great at a totally different sport which will not be played in the playoffs should we make the playoffs and should they miss.

They have a right to be frustrated.
They can EAD we have more WINS...the rules are the same for everybody if they can't pull it off too bad for them

I think Gaudreau is closing in on the record for most in a year, and if he keeps it up will have the record by 2020.
You have to think Jagr will pot a few more though.

Wouldn't be so sure. 3on3 is a speedy mans game, Jagr is getting pretty slow.

JG has 6 3 on 3 points?

That is absolutely crazy considering the Flames lead the league with 7 OT wins

Yeah, I don't think he's chasing anyone's record. From here on out everyone is chasing him

Does anyone know where you can get TOI for OT? I scoured nhl.com but couldn't find that.

Flames have played 10 OT games. If JG has averaged 1.5 minutes per, that's 15 minutes of ice-time (it's probably less than that).

In that 15 minutes or so, he has 3 goals and 3 assists.

That's a points-per-60 minutes of something in the neighbourhood of 24

Dunno about season stats but per game on nhl.com - you have to go to box scores, and then click TOI reports on the rh side:

http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreport...6/TH020443.HTM

JG got 1:06 OT time last game.

Yeah, I know box scores have it but I didn't really want to add up all the games myself. Maybe I will tonight though

It shouldn't be too tough to calculate. They've only played 10 OT games...
  1. Oct 10 @ VAN: 2 shifts, 0:13 and 0:51 = 1:04 (goal)
  2. Oct 23 v DET: 2 shifts, 0:15 & 0:57 = 1:12 (assist)
  3. Oct 28 @ OTT: 2 shifts, 0:41 & 1:01 = 1:42
  4. Nov 5 vs PHI: 1 shift, 0:15 (assist)
  5. Nov 13 @ WAS: 1 shift, 0:46
  6. Nov 20 v CHI: 1 shift, 0:45 (goal)
  7. Nov 27 @ ARI: 2 shifts, 0:37 & 0:37 = 1:14
  8. Dec 1 v DAL: 2 shifts, 1:09 & 0:09 = 1:18
  9. Dec 4 v BOS: 3 shifts, 0:06, 0:21 & 0:36 = 1:03 (goal)
  10. Dec 12 v NYR: 1 shift, 1:06 (assist)

6 points in 10:25 of total ice time. 1 point for every 1:44 of OT ice time. 1 point every 2.83 shifts.

34.56 pts per 60 minutes of OT

He's becoming one of the best one on one players in the league.

1. Kane
2. Ovechkin
3. Crosby or Gaudreau

If you had Crosby and Johhny sitting on the bench in 3 on 3, Bennett skates over to change who jumps over for the change? I'd bet money Johnny could take Crosby 1 on 1.
