Default Rangers send Halak to South Beach

@CPHLLarryBrooks Halak has been traded to Florida.

@CPHLarryBrooks Torts had no time for Halak, 1 start since Torts named HC.

@CPHLLarryBrooks NYR get Ondrej Pavelec and Ryan Stanton

@CPHLLarryBrooks NYR get a slight upgrade in net and young dman who likely won't see much playing time, at least not yet.

@CPHLLarryBrooks Halak was seen singing Will Smith's Miami...

Thanks to Caged for the negotiations.

I haven't been following either goalie this year so I have no idea if this is even or not?

Well my biggest concern is with that kid in Winnipeg playing so well, how much of a chance does Pavelec get once he's healthy again. Halak is still the starter on the Island but they seem confident playing Greiss.

so that's the second time Halak and Pavelec get traded for each other between Florida and the Rangers within 2 months ... something like that is not going to happen very often I guess.

I think this one is pretty even. Halak is better going forward IMO, but he's UFA ... Pavelec is still RFA and therefore cheaper, but will probably see his value diminish a bit if Hellebuyck keeps this up.

BTW and off-topic, always pissed when I read Hellebuycks name ... still can't believe I traded him for a 2nd right before the 2014 draft. Chief picked the perfect time for his offer there too, because we all love shiny draft picks.

Correction, you also got Patrick Wey. Who is now out of the league.
To be honest, it was a late 2nd rounder and journeyman dman. I was actually surprised when you said "yes".

I've been lucky with goalies (in Philly)
-Schneider became a great goalie.
-Ullmark (I'd actually signed originally but then released him), Florida picked him up then was giving him away for free so I took him back. Looking good.
-Allen, gave up couple of what looks to be mid 2nds in 2016 and Pokka has turned into a great starter now. Leading the NHL in shutouts and #1 in St.loo
-Hellebuyck as you know...

Too bad that team could never find any sim mojo. Hopefully Duke can figure it out.

And it looks like Rangers end up with Stanton, Bartosak, 2017 2nd out of the back and forth swap. Good for the Rangers.

Like I said, great timing on your part. Right before the draft and we all love more picks I mean, I knew Hellebuyck was a good young goalie with potential, but a 2nd round pick could be anything! Even a good young goalie with potential!

Certainly not my finest trade, that's for sure.

I traded John Gillies to Ravi immediately after he was drafted by the Flames and didn't even charge Ravi a premium. Would like that one back

Still feel ok about the Allen deal...just didn't have room for him. Though that's a perfect example of how teams should be taking advantage of situations. Schumm made the only offer and another team could have swooped in to get a young number 1

I traded Halak for an upgrade on this season, only to see Pavs return to being garbage and Halak becoming good again. Halak is UFA, but is an easy re-sign.

Don't care about my team performing less good this season if it's at the expense of having the ability to play well beyond.

Also, acquired Jay Harrison from T.O. for a 4th to replace Stanton.
