Odd timing especially after Russell had a strong game tonight.
Russell missed clearing the puck 4 times in the third, couldn't hold his man in the boards and had no pass but "bank it off the glass" a number of times. He wasn't good IMO
When AV was hired, Sather said he thought high-scoring games were more entertaining than low-scoring games, and many Rangers fans agreed.
Well, Rangers fans, are you not entertained?

3-on-3 OT is exciting the same way horror movies with loud noises and cheap surprises are scary.

Highlight of the period, and the game, by quite a bit was Girardi getting hit in the face with a stick.
I also thoroughly enjoy watching the money metaphorically fall out of Kreiders pocket every time he touches the puck. Enjoy the ELC level contract you ****ing loser.

huge part of coaching hockey is knowing how and when to deploy the players on your roster. AV has no idea how to do this. He follows big goals (both for and against) in which the next shift will dictate momentum with his 4th line, and EVERY TIME the puck is pinned in the NYR zone or ends up in the ranger net (just like after the tying goal yesterday, and now in this 2nd period). Its disgustingly predictable.
He cant recognize that his 4th line is useless hot garbage. He cant recognize that his "first line" pair is an abortion thats getting abused every shift.
Fire AV.

Calgary has 9 high-danger scoring chances. The front of the Ranger's net is Disneyland.

Gaudreau is the one to fear in Calgary right now. Nobody else on the Flames scares me even remotely.

Agree. Brodie is pretty good. Upfront nobody is scary besides gudreau

I thought that 3rd pairing was horrible tonight. Wideman was standing right where the 2nd and 3rd goals went in and the 3rd goal was going wide but hit his skate and in. Maybe time for him to finally spend a night in the press box. I'm not exactly sure why Engelland is sitting again because he's been better than both Smid and Wideman.
Gaudreau made that OT goal happen. He could have dumped it in and changed or tried to skate it in and possibly lose it, instead he skates behind the net and waits for fresh guys and then changes.
- Thought the Flames played well until Hiller let in that second goal. Really seemed to rattle the team and they never looked quite the same. If they want to be a successful elite team they have to rally after goals like that because they are always going to happen. The won despite it though and that is a good sign.
- Smid looked very good again. I don't remember him ever being this effective but he did all things well today. Moved the puck up ice, pinched well to keep plays alive and played fairly well defensively.
- Russell did not look good tonight. There was a sequence where Hughson was raving about how excellent he is at blocking shots, all the while the Rangers had possession in the Flames zone for about a minute in a half. Not a great first game back.
- TJ Brodie and Gaudreau are the the best players on the team. If we lose either to injury you can kiss the season goodbye.
- I love 3 on 3! It opens up the game and gives both teams a chance to go for it over playing it safe.
Go Flames Go! 5 wins in a row to salvage a bad start.
What a night, my wife just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at 7 pm and I got to "watch" the play by play on CP! thanks for keeping me up to date guys !
Because the Sens lost to the Habs and the Sens players were garbage for most of that game in that loss. They only lost 3-1 but it could've very easily been a 6 or 7-1 loss.
My GCL feed cut out right when Friedman brought up Johnny contract. Was it a typical Sportsnet "Johnny won't sign in Calgary" piece? And should I expect the Francis companion article tomorrow?
