Boxing Day deals thread - update: Telus boxing week sale on now
Figured I'd start it early as I'm looking to grab a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge. Let me know if you see or hear of anything. Talked to Telus today and he said their boxing day sales (along with Best Buy's) will likely be similar to their black Friday deals.
Did anyone see any good Telus/Samsung S6 deals over the Black Friday weekend? I wasn't paying attention back then.

But that's probably unrealistic.

Are you suggesting this to the poster because you have one and like it or were you adding it to the list of phones people were looking for a deal on?
If the first is true then tell us more because it's only $50 on a 2 year contract with Telus, and if you're looking for one it's only $50 on a two year deal with Telus, right now, haha.

Great phone, good deal. The lesser 5x is actually $150 on the same two year deal and both come with a $50 Google Play credit too.
I almost gave it and got the 6P at Best Buy on boxing day but couldn't justify a new phone and going on contract just for a shiny new toy but if you're looking, that's the one to go with IMO.
The credit could probably be used for Google Play Music streaming too.

Am I being a sucker for aesthetics in wanting an S6 edge? I'll go down tomorrow and actually play with these models to get a better feel, but just looking at other people's S6 edge's while they're using them, they look pretty stunning.
The reviews seem to be very good as well, with the only negative being the price, which is less of a hindrance now that it's been out awhile.
However, if there's a great phone that holds up to it for $50 or even cheaper on boxing day I'd be all over that. I'll definitely check it out.

Just curious to hear some more reasoning here, as I am looking at both of these phones right now. They seem quite similar with the 6P being the larger of the two but I'm far from an expert when it comes to smart phones.

Long post warning...TL;DR at the end.
I recently bought the 6P from Google. I'm month to month on BYOD right now, so I didn't want a contract. Plus the carriers only have the 32GB version, and I wanted 64GB. If you're buying the phone outright, its only $50 more for double the storage.
I came from a Samsung Galaxy S5, and the difference is night and day. TouchWiz (Samsung's UI) is just needless bloatware, really. The Nexus 6P is SO much snappier in every way. Plus the quick updates from Google...Samsung is notoriously slow at Android updates. I only got Android 5.1.1 on my S5 after 6.0 came out for Nexus phones.
The battery life on the 6P is amazing. With fairly moderate to heavy usage, I still have 35~40% left when I go to sleep at night, often more. With the S5, it would be below 40% when I came home from work around 6PM. Couple that with fast charging, and its total bliss. A coworker of mine flew to Hawaii on vacation, and he was playing games and watching movies on his 6P the entire flight from Calgary to Los Angeles, he said he still had over 40% battery left when they landed. Charge it for 15 minutes at the airport, and he got a major boost. I haven't timed the charges myself, but Google advertised that a 10 minute rapid charge gets you 8 hours of usage.
I don't know about the S6, but the camera on the 6P outperforms my old S5...less megapixels, but "more MP = better" is a myth...what you really want is a larger sensor and larger pixels. It should be fairly equal to the S6 camera, at the very least. (As I'm typing, I looked it up...6P has less MP, 12.3 vs 16, but it has a larger sensor, and larger pixel size...MUCH more important!)
The fingerprint sensor on the 6P is way better as well. No need for any guess work or retries with Samsung's swiping. You just touch your finger on the sensor, and it unlocks. No need to push the power button at all. Just pick up the phone, and your index finger naturally goes on the fingerprint reader. Bam, your phone is unlocked and ready to go without even touching a button.
As for the S6 Edge...to be honest, I think its more of a gimmick than anything else. Most people I've talked to agree...you'll love it for a while, but it will lose it's novelty eventually. There's only so much text that can go on one line, and who really looks at the side of their phone all that often anyway? Keep in mind, the S7 is on the horizon now. I don't know if there is a new Edge model planned, but if you were going with the S6 for example, it will be obsolete fairly soon.
The general consensus I have heard from most people is, the Edge is not worth the extra $$$ over the normal S6. My dad has an S6, and I feel like the thing is going to drop out of my hands and shatter into a million pieces if I don't baby the hell out of it. The 6P feels much more sturdy in your hand...maybe I am the only one, but I am less terrified of dropping it. The screen is larger, but take it from a guy who was not a fan of large screens. Its really not that big of a transition to make. I went from ~5.2 on the S5 to ~5.7 on the 6P. It doesn't feel a whole ton bigger.
The 6P was at Best Buy for $0 on Black Friday (I think it was Rogers, but I could be wrong), but you can't go wrong for $50 either. It may come down on Boxing Day as well. But if you think you might want the extra storage, go for it. My 64GB edition of the 6P has a total of 53.67GB of usable space. Following the same figures would mean 21.67GB on a 32GB model. Keep in mind, there is no SD card slot...same with the S6 as well, actually.
I would say stock Android = no bloatware, plus faster updates...go with the 6P. I strongly suggest at least looking into it before going with Samsung. I have three coworkers, plus a friend, who all bought 6P's. Two previously had S3's, one had an S4 which he broke and was using an iPhone 4, and the other had a Oneplus One. All are absolutely loving the 6P.
Trust me, you won't regret it.
If you have any questions re: the 6P, feel free to post here or PM me. I can try my best to answer from my own experience. You can't go wrong with the 5X as well, but the 6P is much more bang for your buck.
TL;DR -- Buy the Nexus 6P.
EDIT: If you need an extra Type-C cable, these are great. I got it for $8.99 during Black Friday week, and they are up to Google's cable standards. Apparently the Oneplus cables are no good.

This is a pre-Black Friday deal, but Shoppers has Black Ops 3 on the PS4 and XBONE for $50 (from the 12th to the 18th), which is a steal in pricing for video games.
Would be good for anyone looking to get this as a Christmas Present.

^ Google had a fire sale recently on the Nexus 9 tablets. I believe they are all gone now though.
Apple stuff rarely comes on sale, but you should be able to find a non-Apple tablet on sale pretty easily.
If you can afford them, check out the sales on the Surface tablets. Those are tablets you can actually DO stuff on. Pricey, though.

It is a good write up. But you can't base your opinion of the S6 on the S5. It is almost apples to oranges. They are completely different devices. Touchwiz is still annoying, but it is scaled way back on the S6. Get a different launcher and its hardly noticeable. The hardware and screen is still some of the best on the market as well.
But yes some Samsung gripes still exist.
For me it came down to screen size. I hate this phablet trend. The S6 screen is a perfect size for me.
