Jankowski makes it 3-1 over Brown

Apparently made a spectacular play to prevent Brown from scoring on an open net.

Janko looks like a hard guy to stop when he's coming at you. Wheels and huge!

College Hockey Inc. @collegehockey
With the win last night, @FriarsHockey is off to the best start ever by a defending NCAA champ

At this point I think the Friars all but guaranteed a berth in the NCAA championships. They are poised to go deep in the playoffs.

Likely means it will be more difficult for the Flames to sign Jankowski and/or Gilmour before the regular season ends.

On the plus side, great to see Jankowski having such an important role on a great team.

The best part about Jankowski and his progression is that he doesn't appear to have any weak areas in his game. Even as he translates his offence to the pro level, he should be usable in every situation. I have a hard time seeing him end up as anything less than a versatile middle 6 NHL center.

He is below 50% in the dot this year, could be a weakness.

The College teams all play pretty light schedules over the holidays. With Hickey attending Canada's World Junior Camp, Matt DeBlouw was the only Flames prospect in action Friday night.

DeBlouw got an assist in MSU's 4-3 win over Wisconsin. He is now on a three game point streak.

Providence and Colgate are both done playing until after Christmas, and BU plays their final game until early January tonight (which Hickey will again miss). MSU is the only team with a Flames prospect with any games to come before Christmas, playing tonight and again next Saturday.

At one point it was the only positive quality some thought he had. He's a percentage short of 50 I think, so not a huge worry I'd imagine, especially how strong he was last.

Jankowski has taken over 30% of all of Providence's faceoffs this season. He had taken 309 faceoffs and has a record of 150-159.

MSU lost today to Wisconsin 3-0. Needless to say, that stopped DeBlouw's point streak at 3 games.

----------

While Hickey is at the Team Canada camp, BU did something no other team in the NCAA has been able to do this season: They handed Quinnipiac their first loss of the season.

Quinnipiac's loss means that Providence will celebrate Christmas as the only undefeated team left standing in NCAA Hockey.

As much as BU has struggled this season, after going all the way to the National Championship game last year, they've put up strong performances against the top two teams in the country. Providence only has 3 ties on the season, and 2 came against BU. Now, they've given Quinnipiac their first loss. Providence and Quinnipiac have a combined record of 27-1-5 and 3 of those 6 non-wins were against BU.

BU now has an incredibly long Christmas break, so even if Hickey makes Team Canada, he should only miss one or two BU games coming back. The Gold Medal game is on January 5 in Finland, and BU's next game is January 7 in Boston.

Big loss for the BU program. AJ Greer (Colorado 2nd round pick in 2015) leaves the team mid season and joins Rouyn Noranda of the QMJHL

Multiple sources saying BU's Ahti Oksanen out for the year. One source did say team will reevaluate him after break.

Wow is the BU hockey program falling apart?

Junior Nick Roberto, who hasn't played a game this year, has been suspended for gambling.

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/new...pended_for.php

Quote:
According to several sources, Roberto's suspension is the result of gambling activity he participated in during last season. Sources indicate that Roberto was not the only BU player involved, though those players are no longer with the hockey program. The identity of those players could not be confirmed. Other sources have indicated that players from other teams were involved, too.

In a statement released to CHN today, the University said, “Beyond confirming that Mr. Roberto will not play for the Boston University hockey team this season, federal privacy laws prevent us from discussing his status.

“However, we can say that several months ago, we heard rumors that a BU hockey player had engaged in gambling. Although the rumors did not involve gambling on either college or professional hockey games, we nonetheless immediately conducted a thorough investigation and turned the results over to the appropriate authorities at the NCAA. Based on that investigation, the NCAA made its own findings and took remedial action, and we would refer you to that organization for further information.”

Emily James, a spokesperson for the NCAA, said the NCAA will have no comment regarding a potential investigation into the BU hockey program stemming from the alleged gambling.

According to NCAA by-laws, a player who is found gambling on any sporting event, amateur or pro in any sport, via a “bookie” or the Internet, faces a minimum one-year suspension. Other gambling, even through legal means such as fantasy sports, are subject to a suspension of an undetermined length. For some of the players, the gambling activities incurred “large” debts, which eventually led to the situation coming to light.
This is turning into a nightmare season for BU.

Sam Constineno on 960 speculates that Hickey might join Red Deer (who own his CHL rights) after the tournament.

He was clear to say that he has no certainty , but he thinks the lure of a guaranteed berth in the Memorial Cup might sway him.

So if he were to join Red Deer, what would that do to his signing timeline?

CHL guys have 2 years to sign (and it's been 18 months since he was drafted) as opposed to the 4 years for NCAA players.

Edit: nm... saw it in the other thread

Unless he's planning on going pro this off season he should probably stay at BU.

Red Deer just acquired Jake Debrusk from Swift Current.

Hickey is being paired with Haydn Fleury at the World Juniors... everything is falling into place for Brent Sutter.
