Raymond has played much better recently. Frankly, I think the choice of who goes down to the AHL should be between Bollig, Ferland and Jooris. I know Raymond has become the whipping boy but I doubt the team is going to send down a guy playing regularly, including on the powerplay, over Jooris who can't seem to crack the line up and isn't getting much done when he does get in. Sending Bollig down seems to be out of the question.
Perhaps Jooris or Ferland could go down and score a few points and come back with renewed confidence when the next opportunity comes. I really like Granlund's game and he's earned the right to stay up at this point.

In no universe is Raymond better than Ferland or Jooris. How exactly has Raymond played better recently? By getting undeserved ice time and skating fast? Even Bollig brings at least something that is contributing to the team when he is dressed. Mason Raymond is useless, he needs to be waived.

Huh? How would that help the Flames? If Granlund is sent down (and I am heavily against that), he is still Flames' property. If he's traded, he's gone forever. Unless you would trade him to do him a personal favor, I don't see how that would benefit us.
I'm a big fan of Granlund and I'm happy to see him start shooting more. Him and Bennett seem to have some great chemistry together. Keep him up here Treliving!!

Granlund slots ahead of Jooris, Bollig and Raymond in my opinion. He should stick.
Once Bouma returns, I hope to see:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Jones
Bennett - Granlund - Hudler
Bouma - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Stajan - Colborne
Jooris and Bollig are extras.

I think the proper course for his development is to play with the big club. Not only that, but he is actually contributing to the big club.
I'm happy with his performance, and I love how he's not afraid to shoot the puck.

I think that Raymond is better than Jooris in this universe at this time. Raymond is just as fast but more skilled. I liked Jooris' game last season but this year he looked like nothing more than a checker who takes way too many penalties. I also don't see any players that Jooris has chemistry with. Raymond's been pretty good recently when playing with Backlund and Frolik. He had a really solid game against San Jose (including a great shift on that Backlund goal with all the passes where he caused two turnovers on the forecheck), played well against Chicago, and even last night he got a few chances. I don't mind Raymond's game recently at all, he's been adequate and certainly not the worst forward on the team during this homestand.
I'll grant you that Ferland is probably better since he brings so much more physically and neither player is producing much in the way of points. I'll just leave the Bollig issue alone since I have never appreciated him as a player and whatever it is that other people like about his game, I'm not seeing it.
On the topic, I would definitely agree that Granlund has outplayed any of the players mentioned and that it would be a mistake and completely inconsistent with the stated philosophy of the team if he were sent down.

I'm so happy to see the Markus Granlund that I saw in Abbotsford and Adirondack finally get a chance to show who he is with Calgary.
I had very little doubt that his game would transition to the NHL, just a matter of when he would get the chance. He did and he looks to be running with it.

People forget that Jooris got a good few points with Johnny last year and he won't be ferrying that role this year

Does anyone know if Burke has ever indicated that his extended Christmas no-trade policy also included waiving players? As this policy is based on a doing what's right for the player, they may avoid putting a player on waivers (and potentially being claimed) during this period for the same reason they put trades on hold. If so, Granlund would be the one going down, deservedly or not.

I absolutely agree, except I wish Hudler could figure out his game so we could get back to something like this:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
Bennett-Granlund-Frolik
Bouma-Backlund-Jones
Ferland-Stajan-Colborne
That, is a very solid forward lineup top to bottom. If the defense can keep progressing, and we get above .900 Sv% goaltending, this team can make some real noise going forward.

I personally hate this expression. It's been worn out with everyone wanting to launch Wideman.
Just say no to launching people.

I actually think it's good to have Hudler with Granlund and Bennett. We all know very well that Huds is great with the new guys, and will help them develop. Also I like having a big body on that first line, that can drive the net hard.

Too bad the expansion draft looks to come 1 year too late for Raymond.

Loving granlund's game so far since his call up. biggest thing for me is he needs to continue it and be consistent. In the past he's had spurts like this for a few games and then he just disappears and becomes a non factor. He's never looked this good so hopefully that is a sign that he's ready to take that next step. He's clearly to good for the ahl and this is his time to prove he's a full time nhler.
