His play of late is what this team really needed and in a way the defence has been taking more chances because of it. I'm just hoping that Hiller can raise his level of play to what we had last season with both going on a run when the other got cold. It's the only way we might get a shot at a playoff spot.
Probably. Unless it's Ferland, who was going to sit tonight.
If he takes Raymond's place it's a bit of a weird line - I don't know that he fits well with Backlund, so more line juggling would take place. Maybe he plays with Bennett and Colborne and Granlund moves with Backlund. But that line's been doing great as well.
Yeah, that's true. The one thing Bouma has going for him is that he can be a big addition to the PK which is a disaster. You kind of have to make room for him. There's still Hudler and possibly Jooris to slot in. Basically there's too many bodies and Granlund would be the easy one to send down but he's played too well.
Whoever is on the bubble better get skating, because there's not much room left to play.

On the Fan 960 on my drive home it was indicated by Jacques Cloutier that Ferland was supposed to sit tonight.
Still thinks Granlund isn't ready for full time NHL yet, should be automatic send down when Bouma returns. Really..what else does he need to do?
Steinberg is a huge Backlund fan and always has his back and I think he sees Granlund as a threat to him. Lets face it Granlund has been better in his 6 game callup than Backlund has been all year.

Didn't Bouma play with Backlund most of last year? Played as well as anyone could play with Backlund.
There was a stretch last season where Bouma-Backlund-Jones had a bit of a scoring streak going. Not sure how long it lasted but it was effective for sure. Bouma should take Raymond's spot on that line for sure, even though Raymond hasn't been bad. I also think Colborne deserves better than 4th line minutes, but I guess a fourth line of Ferland-Stajan-Colborne should be pretty effective. Please no Bollig tho, he wasn't even bad today but I just think Ferland is the better option every time.
Thought Granlund played his best game as a Flame tonight. He was all over the ice and consistently getting shots of for high quality chances. He wedged a key PK faceoff down the ice after Stajan got waved out and had a tantrum, and appears to be getting better with faceoffs. It doesn't appear Hartley has any interest in Bennett playing centre right now, which is fine - we need his offense and if he can't be a top 6 defensive centre, keep him where he helps most. As good as Colborne was, I would've given the 3rd star to #60.
Speaking of Bennett. I and others have made Corey Perry comparisons, but I can't help but feel these are a little misplaced. Bennett will never be the physical speciman Perry is. But watch that kid play down low and tell me you don't see some Sidney Crosby.
Monahan, Johnny, Brodie and Hamilton were all excellent. Wideman and Gio had strong games as well. David Jones was especially bullish tonight, he crashed the net a bunch and was a factor all night.
Hope frolik is alright. That's a dirty hit.
This is a decent team. Props to Hiller for gutting it out. Get them a goalie.

Ferland any day over Bollig. Hes more physical, doesnt take stupid penalties and has way more offensive upside. Its a no brainer.
I think I've finally figured out this team. Last year it was about trolling all of the advanced stats guys by making the playoffs despite poor possession numbers.
This year they're taking it one step further by tanking on several regular stat categories -- goals against, power play, penalty kill, goal differential etc.
If this works, Hartley is probably going to try winning without actually attempting any shots...
Kind of like an NHL version of the Zelda no-sword challenge?
Was I the only one annoyed at the PBP guys when Buffalo scored their third goal off the icing they were trying to say it went off the Flames player on the bench when it so obviously went off the stick of Raymond and then the glass. It was a good icing call and they were saying it went off Smid on the bench. Kind of annoying that they can't even catch things on replays.
back from the game and the flames are still making bad teams look bad, that makes me hopeful. 13% to make the playoffs on sportsclubstats.com
-flustock is troubling but it's pretty gutsy that they can win through it.
-the ice is bad, should be a thread
-Johnny taking the puck all the way up ice, through the sabres line-up was spectacular. not a scoring play, but shows gaudreau is able to do pretty much anything he can dream up out there.
-killer instinct is back, the team is closing games out. in the third, i'm back to expecting them to pull it off, and i'm sure the players feel the same way
Too much ripping on both goalies for the last while. Flames are in the midst of a win streak. Could the goalies be playing better? Sure, but who cares? Flames are winning. It is 2 points if it is 1-0 or 10-9. Hiller made the saves he needed to make in order for the Flames to win. Ramo has been making the saves he needed to since his recall. I much prefer Ramo, but you have to have a serious axe to grind in calling out Hiller tonight given the circumstances (not playing in a long time, sick, extreme short-notice). Guy got the win.
Colborne is quietly turning into a beast. Really tough to contain along the boards now. Great skater too that covers so much ground. Really liking his game, though he has been inconsistent.
Tough to say who sits out when Bouma returns. I would guess Granlund, simply due to waivers. Sure, one can point (easily) at Raymond, but Raymond has also VASTLY improved his game and looks like a player out there the past while. He may not be generating too much offence, but he has helped put the opposition on their heels a bit. I am still not a fan of his, but it is nice to see him make an improvement.
No point in commenting on the rest of the team. I think everyone's exuberant gushing have already covered it.
3rd star tonight was the refs though. I generally don't complain much about reffing - you get the calls in some games, and you don't in others - but this was indeed a particularly badly reffed game with blatant missed calls (aside from a couple people mentioned, how did Kane not get called a few times? I swear he sent one of his money phones to the Zebra union).
Still managed to get the win in spite of everything, and that is what good teams do.
Risto, Eichel and Reinhart are definitely all awesome future stars. Too bad they traded for Kane - guy continues to be the most overrated 'star' in my mind. Looked like a future Iginla with his scoring, all-around physical game and fighting ability - and still has some 'star' reputation and a 6 million contract. Dude has hit over 20 goals once (when he actually hit 30) - though the lockout shortened season was a good one for him as well.
Buffalo looks like a really good team in the making. Fun team to watch I would say.

if you put raymond on waivers, and he gets claimed, you kill the goat again next year.
