I still have nightmares about that goal Ramo allowed in WPG this year. Much worse and more costly than any goal I've ever seen scored on Hiller.

Which is why, unlike baseball where the new analytic stats actually show something, analytic hockey stats can safely be ignored!

if anything they won despite him, good on him for showing up I guess...Ramo must have really been sick.

That play on Frolik should be a suspension. You can't drive a guy face first into the ice. How that didn't get a penalty, let alone a major penalty, is beyond me.
Total bs. Glad Frolik is alright, although his face will probably be an inch or two thicker in places this time tomorrow.

Russell can take him time and get to 100%. Hell 110%, take a month off Kris.

Am I the only one not impressed by Backlund?
Gaudreau Monahan Colborne were awesome tonight.
Refs should be suspended! Obvious missed calls that could be argued but the hit on Frolik......... That was disgusting. No call! Text book 5 minute major and a game, if not suspension worthy!
|
I have a major problem with him on the PK as he was scored on in both goals tonight and has been very bad on the PK for the whole season. He was also on for the 3rd goal against even strength although I think he has been better even strength. His PK though is killing the Flames.
Also Backlund was weak on faceoffs again tonight at 36%. By contrast Monahan was 58% and Granlund was 50%. Stajan was also awful in the dot tonight at only 33%.

If the Flames can't sign or trade for another goaltender in the offseason you may have to bring Ramo back for another season for insurance.

Obviously heading into the 3rd up 2-0, you are hoping for a shutdown period and a 2-0 or 3-0 win. So the 3 GA are a concern. However, given the uncertain reffing, awesome hat trick by Ristoleinin, and clutch of Mony/Johnny I'm pretty giddy about the final result.

I think I've finally figured out this team. Last year it was about trolling all of the advanced stats guys by making the playoffs despite poor possession numbers.
This year they're taking it one step further by tanking on several regular stat categories -- goals against, power play, penalty kill, goal differential etc.
If this works, Hartley is probably going to try winning without actually attempting any shots...

The 1st Ristolainen goal I'm pretty sure only a Jedi could have stopped only using the force. The second goal...eeeehhhhh,, kind of weak. The third wasn't one to hang on Hiller.
Despite the constant bickering back and forth over which goalie people hate just a little bit less, The w's keep coming despite them, consider how good the Flames would be with competent goaltending. Anyways, a shut out would have been glorious, bcause thats the only way anyone will ever shut up about either goalie is if they constantly shut everyone out.

I thought Hiller played pretty good. Especially if you think about the cirumstances. The entire team played well. The score flattered the Sabres if you ask me. See-eye shot from Rasmus, and a shot from him that deflected off of Wideman. Can't blame Hiller for those goals.

Ramo had a rough start and got waived to the minors. To his credit he came back up when Hiller got hurt and has played much better. In the last 4 games he's made the key saves when we needed it.
Lets be honest here. Ramo is not a bonafide #1 goaltender and never will be. It's no coincidence that his play got better when the team in front of him did. The Flames as a team seem confident when Ramo is guarding the net.

Monahan was probably the best defenseman out there tonight, only slightly ahead of Derek Wideman

I just wish Hiller wouldn't always flop around the net on his knees when the puck is around the net.

Back to back regulation wins for the first time this season.
Not just the first time they've won two straight games in regulation, but also the first time that two consecutive wins (even those with losses in between) came in regulation.
