I had heard earlier that there were rumors of stopping construction as they were desperately trying to get out of finishing the project.

I think you're referring to Cenovous trying to bail on the lease?

this......as far as I've heard the construction is still going. Cenovous is trying to reduce their lease but they don;t have a bucket to piss in.

It's not stopped. I work at DIALOG (Architect) and there has been no mention of this.

Commercial real estate agent here. Brookfield place is still moving forward, and some of the lower floors are getting enclosed in glass. End of the day Cenovus signed a million square foot lease that they can't get out off. Brookfield already has enough pre-leasing done with Cenovus to make the project profitable.

As in the SE corner of 7th Ave and 1st St SE?
From a shadowing perspective, full block parks (that have their adjacent streets as buffers) would be a lot nicer than having towers on the same block (e.g. Century Gardens tower, this proposal if understood correctly).

There is a good chance that this residential tower on the NW corner of the Olympic Plaza block is going to be developed by Westbank, currently building Telus Sky. One can only hope for just as stunning a design (or even more) for this proposed tower. Being fully residential it may be hard for it to get some real height to stand out in that area, super long shot that it gets as tall as Suncor or even The Bow, but you never know.
Based on Druh's initial tweet I think she has definitely seen at least an initial rendering of the building design, or else she wouldn't have directed her initial quote to us skyscraper dudes.

Don't know where else to put this but we had our general meeting this morning and discussed the Calgary office market. Basically there 4 million SF of vacancy now and another 4 million SF coming down the pipe with new construction for nearly 8 million SF of vacancy by mid 2018. If you take the historical office growth of 500,000 SF per year that will be 16 years for Calgary to deal with the oversupply of office. Obviously vacancy rates will never hit 0% but to get back to normal of 5% will likely take us 10 to 12 years.

I think I've seen some renderings in the past of what they wanted to do for the Olympic Plaza. Nothing for the building yet though. Will check on it when I am home.
