I saw a man throw up into his glass of beer, pause, and then, keep drinking.

Wow, what exactly does one have to do to get banned from the Cecil for life?

Reverse regurgitation. Anywhere else that would be appalling, but at the Cecil, such a feat is par for the course.

There was one time I was driving down Memorial, going pretty fast, and took the 4th ave flyover a lot faster than I should have. Went to downshift to slow down and instead of putting it into 3rd I missed and put it into 1st at about 100 km/h. Completely over-revved the engine so bad that a rod actually shot out of my hood. Coasted along and pulled into the Cecil. I was mad, at myself and my car. Got out and started kicking the car, cursing up a storm. A couple of drunks in the parking lot took notice and came up asking "hey buddy- what's the matter." I replied "****in piston broke." The bigger of the two guys put his hand on my shoulder and said "Ah, don't worry. We've been pissed and broke for years!"

haha!
Gotta ask, what kind of car let's you downshift to first at 100km/h? usually they don't let you do that unless you are under 30.

Played pool in the T&C a few weeks ago. The decor looks like it probably did in the 70s. You can still smell the smoke in there, it's embedded in the walls, carpet and furniture.

Can you still smoke in the little chicken-wired off section of the Shamrock reserved for smokers and the VLTs?

I was there once or twice. some hilites.
standing out front in a suit smoking a pipe, not your fathers kind.
seeing a drunk lady being dragged into the bar from the alley.
the couple of real drunk ladies asking me and my friend to dance was really funny too.

Did a 30th bday for a female friend about 9 years ago. 8 of us suited/dressed up (for reference, she grew up in bearspaw and is in-house lawyer for an O&G). We did the omakase 8 course with premium wine pairing at Teatro, then rented a limo and drank at Cecil, Shamrock, Border Crossing, Coast Plaza hotel bar in the NE. Did not encounter any of the horror stories as described here. We maybe got looked at for being over dressed, but everyone was friendly and pleasant.

About 15 - 16 years ago (Maybe longer...) me and some friends did an epic pub crawl one Saturday afternoon.
T&C - Rock City - Shamrock - Cecil - Sunset & Vine...Repeat as required.
We ended up at the Screech n Schooner in Forest lawn...
We still talk about that trip and are amazed we survived...

Oh god, the Live Wire. That chalkboard in the bathroom that some nut would invariably put an address on for the afterparty. Total gong show.
I lived near the Shamrock for years so I went there somewhat frequently, but the only interesting situation I saw was after a Stamps game. Some friends had come into town so a group of us went there for some post-game drinks. A couple of us were in the bathroom when some hammered guy came in and started beaking off at one of my friends. "So, you're some kind of tough guy eh?" he kept yelling at my one friend, but my buddy wouldn't really engage him until the guy went to use the urinal. Then he replied "No, I'm not a tough guy..... I'm just tougher than you." and then he proceeded to squish the guy into the urinal. I have no idea how that didn't turn into a big brawl, but the yelling guy just went out that back door and never returned.
I also remember they had those black lights, and if you ordered basically any food there all the grease glowed like toxic waste on the plates. I rarely ate there....

I worked there one night a week for months. The other four nights at the St. Louis. It was actually kind of boring, mostly old timers and jug drinkers. My very first night there the other bartender said I had to go into the bathroom and throw out this giant biker guy named Glen who was selling drugs. I immediately said F that. He said, don't worry about it. He just had heart surgery. Punch him in the heart.

I think Aeneas has some good Live Wire stories.
I remember being invited on to the Killer Dwarfs tour bus for beers.
Strange to see girls asking "freaks" to dance to Journey and Rush cover bands, like Klick.

How does the King Eddie compare to the Cecil? Never had the privilege of gracing this particular establishment, but had many interesting encounters at the King Eddy in the late 90s.

Frankie and Johnny's North was pretty rough. I was there a night after a shooting and you could see bullet holes in the front doors.

Yeah, how could I forgot the Hilton. A buddy was a bouncer there. These were busy places during the boom mostly a mixed crowd of working guys. Nowadays it seems everything is devoted to the younger set.
