Welcome to Mauretania, where you have to take part in a penalty shootout if the president is bored.
Quote:
The Mauritanian federation has been forced to deny that the country’s president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, ordered a penalty shootout in the 63rd minute of the Super Cup final out of boredom.
Abdel Aziz was in attendance to watch the final between FC Tevragh-Zeina and ACS Ksar last weekend which was abruptly called to a halt with the score level at 1-1, to the astonishment of the rest of the crowd, before the referee signalled for a shootout.
The decision has provoked outrage in Mauritania amid accusations that Abdel Aziz had become impatient with the slow tempo of the match, eventually won by Tevragh Zeina.
But the Mauritanian federation’s president, Ahmed Ould Abderrahmane, wrote in a statement: “I deny in the strongest terms the intervention of the President of the Republic. The decision was made due to organisational issues in accordance with the presidents and the coaches of the two teams.”

I'm disgusted but thoroughly amused as well. This story is basically salted caramel.

Gary Neville has been appointed manager of Valencia. I liked him as a pundit, all the best to him in an interesting move.

Gary as head coach, Phil as assistant. Certainly an interesting setup, hope for them that it works out!

Those terroristas apparently fielded some ineligible Russian today in the Spanish cup. Looks like they're gonna get punted.
Funny fact. Last time this happened was Rafa with Valencia. God he's an idiot.

So United is in injury trouble for Wolfsburg tomorrow.
Rojo, Schneiderlin, Jones, Rooney, Valencia, Herrera, & of course Shaw stay behind.
My stab at the 11...
---------- Martial
Memphis - Mata - Lingard
---- Carrick - Schweinsteiger
Darmian - Blind - Smalling - Young
------------- De Gea

great, so van Gaal will have already prepared his excuses for the post-match presser when he has to explain why United has crashed out. They undoubtedly will IMO, simply because Wolfsburg is a pretty good team (especially at home) and Uniteds attack has been horrible lately. The sad thing is that van Gaal will still keep his job ... I highly doubt they'll fire him already.

Van Gaal is one of the weirdest managers in football. He cant be fired.
The management basically admitted that his results dont matter, he can do whatever he wants and hes the man until they feel that Giggs is ready.

I still don't buy that. If they really go for Giggs and ignore Guardiola/Ancelotti/etc. because of that, the club is run by idiots who should be nowhere near a top club like United. They can sell the "we back van Gaal 100 per cent and want Giggs to take over" story in public all they want, but ... I don't believe it until I see it.
Unfortunately I think they'll keep him even if they crash out today, but he'll be on very thin ice then. The fans have already turned against him, and if the club also loses CL money, his leash will probably be a short one.

I dont know what to say, I buy it because Giggs is there at his side like a faithful puppy all the time and I imagine he has to have some input because United have spent a crapton of money on players recently and they either have to be Van Gaal's purchases with Gigg's input or a spectacular waste of money.
As it is though, I do agree that I dont see any repercussions if United crash out.

Don't hire Ancelotti so hopefully he can go back to Real after this disastrous Rafa experiment is over.

Bayern announce that they are resting Neuer against Zagreb tomorrow.
I dont even know who Bayern's backup keeper is, I'll have to look it up.

I'd never heard of him.
Being Bayern's backup keeper must be the World's Second Greatest job, right after being the snowplow driver in Hawaii.

God, I cringe every time I see Blind at CB.

United pressing well in the first 10 minutes. Schurrle should have scored his chance in the first couple of minutes
