Default Neil Peart of Rush retires?

Looks like it. Still mad at myself for not grabbing a ticket to their last show here. They were giving them away on Stubhub that day.

He will always remain a legend.

Now I'm gonna go and watch the Rush documentary again tonight.

He gets tendonitis from drumming.

I think you might see Rush do a festival once in a while, but no more world tours.

John Rutsey died in 2008.

Not shocking. Geddy mentioned this was the last big tour in many interviews though they may play special on offs and may record. In his explanation on that metal show he specifically mentioned a member that has a young family he no longer wants to be away from for extended periods of time. Keep in mind Peart lost his daughter and wife 10 months apart in the late 90s. He doesn't want to miss watching his second child grow up given he knows how fast it can be taken away. Lifeson and Geddy still want to be active but they clearly won't go on as Rush and likely won't even go on together.

And going to the concert, the stage show was set up to signal this I think. Starting with the current set up and then as the show went along and as they played everything in reverse chronological order the set was torn down to leave them with basically a couple of amps. Seemed liked this was far more than a 40th anniversary celebration. It was a celebration and good bye.

AND IT WAS AWESOME!

This has been in the wind for a while. He has nothing to prove to anyone.

Yeah, I know the Peart backstory. His books are terrific, by the way.

that's a positive from his retirement - no new music, but plenty to read!

I heard part of an interview with Geddy and Alex last week and they were pretty clear that they would be doing stuff together moving forward, though not necessarily exclusively.

Had a feeling that last July would be their last time in Calgary, and it almost did feel like a bit of a farewell. Such an awesome band

Geddy says he hasn't retired.

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/rus...hasnt-retired/

Quote:
He continued: "We'll get together eventually and chat about things. But in my view, there is certainly nothing surprising in what he said. Neil just feels that he has to explain with all the thousands of people asking, 'Why no more tours?' He needs to explain his side of it."

Asked whether he feels Peart's quote was taken out of context, Lee said: "I think that's absolutely right. That's their job. Talking about something when there's nothing to talk about."
