The NHL is the only pro-league I can think of where the players can say #### you to the ref and the ref can say it to the players and it's no big deal.

The ref/player dynamic is so interesting to me. I wish there was a lot more unsensored mic'd up refs for our viewing. A more honest step into the game then the spit-polished views of players and coaches we see via media.

Not the first time, but it is rare. I have seen it happen before.

You can definitely hear someone on the ice ( I assume its Neal. Right after he gets """hit""""
Yeah, if you watch the ref, he doesn't put his hand up until Neal is in the corner and turns to the ref. I bet he said something there that the ref didn't like.

I have to disagree, hockey is a unique beast in that regard. Refs cant be professional to the players when they're treated the way they are.

The players say horrible crap to the refs constantly. I wish all refereeing was held to the standard of Rugby Union. The ref is God and is to be treated as such and if you say one word to the ref that he doesnt like you're going to regret it.

The NHL is weird like that. So much is tolerated that other sports would never dream of. Even the NFL is more strict towards violence. The slashing and crosschecking is the worst imo, sick of seeing Johhny hunched over grabbing his hand.

Starts early. The litany of names that the 13 year old refs in house hockey are called would make a sailor blush

From having watched the 24/7's and the Road to the Winter Classic... I 'm pretty sure this isn't the first time a ref has said Eff you to a player.

Love it.

If it wasn't for Neal and Ribeiro, Nashville would be my second favourite team. But with those two rats, I just can't do it

From what I remember, the season with the Leafs and Wings, there was a clip of Phaneuf yapping with someone after the whistle. The ref watches for a bit, then finally has enough, skates over and says something like, "#### both you guys. You're gone."

Maybe I don't have a good eye for this, but it kinda seemed like Rask hit Neal in the face with his stick? Was it more blatant looking than how it appears in the youtube video?

I think it's wonderful that hockey players/refs have unique relationship unlike any other sport.

That is one of the reasons I hockey is my favorite sport.

The highlight package from Sportsnet shows a better angle of it: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/j...rs-edge-bruins

He does get him in the face, but it's on a follow-through, so it shouldn't be a high sticking penalty.

Yeah from that angle it looks like most of the force hit his shoulder pad and barely tapped his chin. A whole half a second later the whole jerk like you just took a bat to the face is awesome.
Once a diver, always a diver. Ref gave it to him eaaaaaasy.

Gee I wonder why the NFL might be a little more strict towards violence. It's not like they have a history of employing danderous individuals. Dog fighters, numerous drug dealer funders , illegal weapon charges every year etc..... It's not like they have a history of on feild hostility spilling over after the game either. You know like fans stabbing, fighting and even shooting one another.

Whens the last time you have heard of a fans death related to a pissed of opponents fan killing another nhl fan related to the game in parking lot ? Fights sure they happen but shootings and stabbings????

Hockey has always let alot slide tho because the violence has never really escalated after the game is finished.

It's not like hockey fans are the most educated and well. Behaved fans of all sports

I believe the violence level will always be tolorated as long as fans and players can distinguish the deference netween the game and real life.

If Rask did it then thats a penalty. It was Gustavsson tho.

Thats what I 100% think had happened. There was no motiin untill he wss in the corner then you can here someone at ice level yelling then Neal touches the puck and Boom ref lets loose. It's not an average occurrence to hear the refs be like this either. It almost sounds like " son of a bitch where is the call" .

Ive been trying to isolate the yelling on some audio software I own but cant be 100% sure. That's my best guess .
