The 107ist non-profit arm of the Timbers Army does a ton to support the community in Portland. The amazingly talented creators of the tifo, as well as the merchandise created for the TA. Get on our level, please! It'll only make the league better.

It's seriously amazing, and I recommend it for everyone!
Our first trip, the 4 of us got our Timbers gear the day before the game. The next day, in line for the army, we had Canada shirts over top. When we saw some Whitecaps fans getting heckled, we pretended to come to their defense before ripping off our shirts revealing our Timbers gear underneath. One of my friends also got a Timbers axe tattoo the day before. It's now turned into an annual trip of football and tattoos (3 of us have matching rose tattoos as of last year). We saw Chivas USA last August (after coming for the all-star game as the other 2 guys are Bayern Munich fans) and SKC in October this year. The SKC game had the most disappointing atmosphere of all 3, and it was still better than almost anything you see in a North American sport.

Question for the Timbers supporters, what is the singing like? On television it sounds more like European crowds that are orchestrated than English crowds where it just springs up, is that actually the case?

I posted an interview with Wheeldon in the Calgary Foothills thread a few weeks ago. When you hear him discuss the club's plans in more than a sentence, it is a much different conversation. Really, Foothills' goal in the next few years is having a USL club, and then going from there.

That gets me excited too. I know MLS is a long, long way away from happening. Anything progressing toward a higher profile club and hopefully a higher level of corresponding support would be great.

Agreed, the thought of a USL club excites me more than any talk of MLS. It's a realistic step up which would avoid the scenario that the Storm had by moving up a division too early, then folding. Also, building a stadium that can support USL soccer is much more realistic for a youth club. With Foothills building a new indoor/outdoor facility next year, it could mean this city actually has a soccer specific stadium with more than a few hundred bleachers.
Plus, to show my bias, I like that the coaching staff knows me by name and asks myself and other supporters to present awards to players at the end of the year.

The slow and steady build up of Foothills is really exciting. Any details about the outdoor pitch they are looking to build at their facility?

It's primarily initiated by the capos/drums, but you'll have impromptu songs started by the different sections within the Army.
