You know, I thought the overhype train was going to ruin everything about the new Star Was movie, but every single little video like that that I have seen has really nailed right out of the park. The feeling is real, the hype isn't hype, it's ...it's almost like a long lost friend who you have missed greatly has phoned and told you they're coming to town for a week to hang out. It's hitting all the right spots. EDIT: Except the cover girl make up star wars line commercial, thats crazy awesome and crazy how wide spread the marketing hype is.
That every lightsaber battle was great. You don't realize until you see them all compiled together that Revenge of the Sith had waaaaayyy more lightsabre battle than any other movie combined.
After watching them all though I think my top 3 lightsabre battles in the movies rank like this:
3. ROTJ Vader vs.Luke
2. ROS Anakin Vs. Obi Wan
1. PM Darth Maul vs. Qui Gon Jin and Obi Wan. The whole set was awesome, Ray Park really made it but the 3rd act of the battle hit it out of the park for me when Qui Gon fell and Obi Wan waited like a caged Panther staring down a goat. You could feel the energy in that specific engagement between Maul and Obi Wan, by far the most intense and perfectly choreographed fight sequence of them all.

I would agree with you on the light saber fight ranking. But I really liked Obi Wan versus Skywalker, because it was two brothers who had fought together and trained together and at times in that duel it was like they were thinking the same way.
For all of his acting faults Hayden was incredible on the physical side of things in terms of the duels.
I really liked the Vader older Obiwan fight because it had this classical feel to it, mainly because the light saber props were so fragile. But it was almost like two old warriors fighting an economical battle looking for openings.

I would give an honorable mention to Palpatine vs, Mace Windu but its a damned bloody shame hat fight wasn't written in better. Aside from the visual metaphors like dueling through a tunnel into darkness, the saber fight was too short to really do either of the two principle characters skill any justice.
I agree that Hayden Christensen's physical efforts were great. All the Dooku fights were awesome. but not as emotionally captivating as my top 3.
Another HM should really go to the Vader vs. Luke in Empire, it leads right to the biggest twist in movie history after all, but I don't feel it was as captivating as Luke lashing out on Vader after he mentions leia. Thats was epic. And if I am honest sealed my love of Star Wars forever. Such a base, raw emotion it is, lashing out at the threat to ones family. Even the best people will do the worst things.
And one more HM to Yoda vs. Dooku. At the time, the reveal of how powerful Yoda was not only in the use of the force but the freaking man with a lightsaber too was amazing to finally see with your own eyes. But again, lacked the emotional punch of the top 3 on my list.

I'm going to have to disagree. My favorite has always been at the end of Empire. It's all really well choreographed, without LOOKING choreographed, like any of the new ones.
It starts with their first real face to face meeting, where they cautiously feel each other out, unsure of each others abilities. They each get a moment thinking they have the edge in the battle. Luke then get's to see Vader's true power when he gets stuff hurled at him, and taunted with using his anger. It ends with Vader getting the upper "hand" and a shear sense of hopelessness.
IMO, any of the fights in the prequels are shallow attempts to recreate this fantastic battle, and they don't even come close. I think all the lightsaber ballet really kills them for me as every move looks pre-planned, objects ready to be used at key points...whereas the Empire scene looks improvised in its flow. It's one of my earliest Star Wars memories, and has always evoked a lot of fear and desperation and sense of being alone on Luke's side, culminating in the last scene.

I enjoy all light saber battles, however my big qualm is the spin move. Every character seems to do it. Maybe there is a reason besides looking more dramatic, but it just seems to leave you in a vulnerable position when your back is turned to your opponent.
Agreed the original trilogy light sabre battles look like actual sword fights while the prequel trilogy battles look more like choreographed dance moves (especially with the CGI characters, Grievous and Yoda).
Also, just got tickets to the IMAX in Sydney for Boxing Day! I waited too long to get opening weekend tickets but this will have to do.

Luke was supposed to be some sort of Basterd Jedi and Vader was horribly injured so he cant do all the fancy dance moves anymore.
I think the point was to highlight how awesome the Jedi used to be.
Also yes, the fancy lightsaber baton-twirling crap was annoying. I'm hoping its a bit more brutally realistic in the new movie.

Interesting point, but I think you are giving the prequels too much credit. I expect light sabre battles to be like two medieval knights fighting (LOTR or GOT with light sabres instead of swords) but the prequels looked more like Capoeira with swords.
The trailer scenes with Kylo using his light sabre look awesome though so I'm confident the new movie will have some epic fights.

Not a lot of people do, she's one of the funniest interviews in Hollywood. They had her one woman play on I think HBO last year and I had tears rolling down my face.

Got my tickets for the opening Sunday (20th) in Imax3D! So pumped!
I'll be taking my two sons with me and hoping this will be a memorable experience for them.
Been trying not to get too hyped, but this really feels like it will deliver. After a long wait, I don't think I'll be walking out of the theatre with the same feeling as after Phantom.
Just doing my part to contribute to the opening weekend box office record smashing. Can't wait!

Its a key point that you're making though, and in a lot of ways that's why I liked the sword play in the prequels.
Those Jedi at the twilight of the republic were for the most part fully trained and fully healthy and fully prepared. The Ben Kenobi's in his prime, and the Mace's and the Yoda's and on the other side, the Mauls, Dooku's and Sideous, had all spent years honing their craft, and they were fast and prepared for any eventuality.
By the time Obi Wan and Vader met again, Obi Wan was not only old, but he probably hadn't picked up a light sabre in anger in 30 years, Vader probably hadn't seen a Jedi or fought one in the same amount of time, plus he wasn't young, probably being in his mid 60's and weighted down by his injuries and that suit of armor.
When Luke fought Vader in Empire, Vader was still battered and old and probably rusty, Luke wasn't really a fully trained Jedi, a couple of weeks of training by carrying Yoda around, and lifting up Artoo, probably wouldn't have put him near the speed and confidence and technique and force control of the prequel jedi.
Even in Jedi, Luke hadn't really been trained up as a fully loaded Jedi, Luke might have had a powerful connection, but he was nowhere near as fast or dangerous as the last great generation of Jedi, and Vader probably didn't have his heart in the duel. In the end the fights in the classic trilogy had to be older and less masterful then the duels in the prequels.
In the Dooku versus Skywalker duel in ROTS we also saw a major change in Anakin's style when Dooku told him to use his anger and hatred, and it was almost like for that brief moment we saw what a healthy Vader would have been like against the Jedi. He went to power moves and overwhelmed Dooku, in that brief 10 seconds, I saw the Vader without the armor that I wanted to see, with all power and focus.
When he fought Obi Wan, he fought as a Jedi because he wasn't truly Vader until he lost everything but the Dark Side of the Force.

That's all fine, in theory. What we got was a choreographed ballet that looked choreographed. I find them hard to watch, because you aren't seeing characters react to the action of the other, you are seeing them go through their set moves and timings. Like the rest of the prequels, it all seams so forced.
That, and the battle with Maul has no weight to it, because we hardly know who he is. It doesn't matter. They could have been fighting a battle droid for all we cared, the character was so under developed. Compare the wight of that battle to the one in Empire.
