Good News everyone!

There's more than one Mirelurk Queen, and there is no easy hiding spot!

Let us take a moment to remember Paladin Danse Dance Revolution, whom we so cowardly sacrificed who so bravely sacrificed himself as we ran away to hide tactically retreated to find a high ground to shoot from.

man the wasteland is so random its awesome it really does feel like a mini world where everyone does their own thing. I was in an abandoned hotel with a robot who i decided to not kill and when i am in a different room looting the building I hear him say oh look more guests arriving. wondering whats going on i start heading back to the room only to hear gun shots turns out a group of synths came in and started shooting the place up. Also when I was wondering around the wasteland a random nuke went off in the distance not sure what happened but I am assuming it was a asuper mutant suicide bomber

As a Mass Effect fanatic, I can't decide whether it's comforting or disconcerting that every NPC in the commonwealth is Garrus Vakarian. Like, I thought that was Garrus Vakarian's voice, not some human voicing a character...

So I just found out I have been playing the game completely wrong. I thought that Perks were a tree that you had to first level up everything below before you could advance to the next level... Being able to know that I can choose other perks now is a huge game changer for me!

I'm still pretty early in the game. I'm awful at fps (well, games in general) and I'm playing on easy. I don't and can't be very stealthy.

Any tips on which perks are with it for me? I enjoy the crafting bit, so I've levelled up science and gun nut

If you don't already, use VATS for all combat if you suck at FPS. Use action boy perk, mysterious stranger perk, and bloody mess perk.
If you enjoy crafting, focus on gun nut, armorer, science!, scrounger.

Yeah I'm not even bad at FPS but I don't know what it is with fallout. I use wayyyy less ammo with VATS. Stealth I go manual, but everything else is VATS.

Bloody mess was awesome in 3. Might have to get that again.

After all the "Museum of Nope" posts, I found the Museum of Witchcraft pretty easy, although the atmospheric effects when you are in the basement had me seriously spooked. And I finally realized I already killed the Mirelurk Queen, that's why I have all this Mirelurk Queen food! That was a long time ago so I must have been in the mid to high teens at the time - I remember the battle well enough, I just didn't realize it was the Queen.

Stealth, if you are patient, kills anything. Stick to being outside only at night, stay in the shadows underground, and if you stand completely still, mobs will literally bump into you and not find you. For the Queen, I was in the shadows before the Queen finished erupting out of the water, then I waited for her to start wandering around with her back to me, dropped three bottlecap mines, and shot her with my silenced rifle when she was directly in line with me and the mines. She ran over them and BOOM! A couple VATS headshots and it was all over.

Upping the explosives perq will do more to kill top end enemies than anything else. I use mines and grenades liberally, you find lots and can also make them easily enough. When you get the perq that lets you visualize the path of thrown objects, you can really wreak some havoc on groups, too.

I'm really enjoying the game and have put in a lot of hours. My only gripe is that loading screens have consumed a lot of the hours spent playing as well. Doing tasks for the minute men can be so tedious as you travel to a place to help settlers who then send you somewhere to take care or a nuisance. Once completed you go back to the settlers to tell them you are done but to get your experience points you have to go back to tell Preston Garvey. Sometimes you spend more time looking at loading screens than playing the game. I really hope there's a patch coming up that can shorten the load times as it's getting a little annoying.

Yeah, totally agree. It gets worse when you go to the settlers, they send you to a place, and once you fast travel there you have to enter a building.

Doing research missions for Proctor Quinlan is a pretty easy way to get good experience + caps. You take a Scribe with you to go look at something, and as soon as you see any enemies, the Scribe always gets themselves killed. Then you go back to Quinlan and get 400xp + around 95 caps. Then he gives you another Scribe to sacrifice to the Gunners. I did that like 4 or 5 times last night lol

And I bought this legendary laser pistol from some vendor that is totally OP. It's called Old Faithful, and it does double damage to enemies with full health. Combine that with the gunslinger perk, and it slays ghouls, synths and most human enemies in one shot. I love it. Kellog's Pistol is pretty awesome as well.

I get that these wide open games need some time to load the levels and textures but it's not like Fallout is using cutting edge graphics here as this is more or less a higher resolution version of Fallout 3.

The load times for fast travel are getting annoying, going in and out of buildings etc aren't too bad.

Nothing like Skyrim though, I found that unbearable, stopped playing.

Vault 81 sells the Overseer's Rifle, which shoots two projectiles at the same time (while still only using 1 bullet of ammunition). So basically it's like the Old Faithful except that it's double damage with every shot, not just the first. I would recommend getting it

I know not of these "load times" you speak of. I haven't been able to read a single tool tip yet.

Gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed I haven't had a raider attack against any of my settlements yet. I have a pretty elaborate setup on our side of the bridge in Sanctuary that's just itching to open up on some baddies.

Last night I was busy building on one of the empty foundations and heard some yelling and my sentries starting beeping and firing off rounds. Yay! Here we go! Run over there to see things as calm as always. WTF? What caused all the commotion? Look around and after a few mins, I find a dead bug on the bridge

Yah, on a PC with an SSD, the load times are under 2 seconds. I assume you could put an SSD in a console, though - might be something to look at, as games are likely to get bigger, not smaller.

Also, I recently bought a 34" widescreen monitor for my PC, and Fallout looks amazing. Other than the colour palette being monotonous, but things like the (spoiler so stop reading if you haven't gone far on the main mission)

Brotherhood blimp and helibirds (or whatever they are) flying overhead are stunning.

So I've reached the point where I am done with the game. I haven't beat it, but I am sick of doing the same fetch quests for the different things. Time to blast my way through the main quest and wait for DLC and mods to fix my major issues with this game.

What I am hoping to see fixed in the coming months (or if this game has the longevity of Skyrim, years):
  • A restoration of the Karma System OR the addition of a proper faction system;
  • Fixing of or the removal of the dialogue wheel. Either add more than four options to the wheel or just remove it altogether;
  • More variation in the style of repeat quests;
  • Better companion AI;
  • level scaling;
  • More varied extended side-quest lines;
  • A rework of the skill-tree;
  • Making it so town building is a bit more seamless;
  • AN IMPROVED PC UI FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST PLEASE (how did I forget this?!)
I've had no real issue load times on PC and haven't encountered any game breaking bugs. Will come back after the first DLC and see where we are. As it stands I'd say this game is a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 but like most Bethesda games judging it off its base launch game is a mistake as this game will end up infinitely better after DLC and modders get deep into it.
